Ok what boat and motor do you have. You are asking alot of question without giving any information. You first need to list the boat model and the motors model numbers. For example "I have a 1991 Trophy 2002 walkaround with a 1987 225 Evinrude hung on the back of it." What do you have an we can go from there.
If you have oil injection you more than likely have a 120-150hp Mercury Optimax. These are oil injected motors. You need to make sure that the oil reservoir in the stern of the boat is full of oil. No seeing as I do not know what oil you use. I would recommend you use the factory directed oil from mercury. At least untill you get an understanding of what kind of oils are out there and which ones you should be using for your boat. Seeing the Mechanic says you have oil injection you will need to use one that is rated for oi injection. Also If you reservoir show oil but only 1/3 or less there is an low oil alarm that sounds telling you to fill it up.
You will want to make sure you run this motor properly with oil. If no oil then the motor will seaze and you will be left with a boat and a non working motor. You might want to post a pic of the boat and motor if you do not know what you have.
