First, I want to say that I love iboats. Over the years I have learned a TON of information to help me with my boat as well as other things. The amount of knowledge and diversity that visits this site is overhealming and everyone that visits has something to add and something to learn...

That being said, during this time of year there are alot of posts about winterizing and storing boats and I understand that while there many posts in the archives to address these questions, many people are looking for specific answers for their specific boats. Ok, no problem.....

BUT, make things easier for all of us by completing your profile so that at the VERY LEAST, we can see what state you like in. I am in South Georgia and what I do to winterize my boat is going to be alot different than someone in Maine...

And, we want to help, but it gets old having ot ask location of a thread starter when we should be able to go ahead and answer the question...

OK, off my Box now....sorry...

(Maybe the Mods can emphasize this to try to get more locations updated...)

Anyone asking how to winterize is likely a new boater and new to Iboats. It's unlikely that they will have read ALL of the stickies and will do the little things that make helping them out easier. It's just something that comes with answering simple questions.

i agree, a city and state should be almost required in the profile when creating an account. it just helps, and sometimes things will make sense when someone is describing something you never heard of, then you look and they are on the east coast, somewhere ive never been before. then it makes sense, ive never been there or encountered the situation described. im with ya, everyone should include a city and state at the least, imo.

Wow I had no idea you could carry a tune like that.... very nice!!;)

Yes that has been an on-going situation here on iboats. The best answer is to just tolerate it. It is a legitimate gripe and observation...... it is similar to us quoting USCG regulations or commenting on rules here in the US/Canada vs owners who are in other areas of the world. ;)

i have to totally agree with you. here, outboards all that is required is the lower unit oil. but I/O's require total different here also basically lower unit, and just oil change and draining the block.

This has been a constant complaint for years and I would suggest there be a poll taken and if the outcome should indicate a Location be required. It should become rule. In my opinion. If someone is so secretive they don't want to disclose their location. They should not post on this forum.

Re: I just GOTTA GRIPE!!!

I am on another forum, brand specific to my boat, we have been trying to get this kind of info for a long time, city and state, boat info, make, model, engines and drive systems so the info would be there for those that could answer the questions, a thread similar to this one was starter there again yesterday, this AM when I logged in there were new places for me to put info even though I already had it in there, I filled out the new places also. It does help to know what boat and what area the boat is used in when questions are asked. We would welcome new members and in the same post ask them to enter the info, many did, some would just do it when they joined, some never did and it would take several posts to pick the info out of them and sometimes they even get ignored if they don't give the needed info, then when they do they get answers.

I'd limit it to state if it's going to be mandatory. Not a big fan of broadcasting my whereabouts.:p

I agree.

It's gonna happen. Some don't even know how to search.

Re: I just GOTTA GRIPE!!!

I belong to several forums and only one of them is it pretty much mandatory that you include this info on your profile . Even that forum which is also V bulliten based you have to into the user CP to add that info . We have one Mod over there that regulates the newbies and gets on them if the info isnt there . The major differance there is the forum is nowhere near the size of iboats and doesnt have nearly the number of newbies joinding up daily. I would say here it would take a whole crew of mods just to try to keep up with it I do agree it makes life alot easier when answering questions . The Starcraft crew tries to keep after it with our newbies . I might suggest that maybe the differant boat type owners self moderate this like we do . We are a pretty tight group though as noted by the Anti Starcraft club :D. I enter my location everywhere I join but I am used to this software as I belong to at least 4 forums runniing V bulletin software . Just a thought but bayliner owners , Whaler owners , Glastron owners Etc. self moderate your newbies :D.

Easy answer. :D EVERYONE regardless of location will prepare for sub zero freezing weather and winterize accordingly. :p

I checked mine to make sure that it was there. Lowcountry of SC stays warm.

My winterizing of the boat: try to use it at least every month. :D

I do drain the block and exhaust manifold on the I/O when freezing (it does get down into the 20s at times here at night in the winter.

Re: I just GOTTA GRIPE!!!

Sorry, I had a bad day yesterday. I know it is an issue. Maybe the forum administrators would at least make state mandatory upon registration. State at the very least I could live with...

That said, I am like some of the others here, in S. GA, I just check to make sure it is in the back yard. We can use them year around, as long as you do not mind fishing with a jacket and having a Cold face form time to time...
