I boat a 2000 Bayliner Capri 2052 DX cuddy, mercruiser v8, last June 29th. I didn't sign up here until I needed some help. I paid $7900.00 for the boat after a 10 minute ride on the lake. DOH!!! The PO had the boat cover stored UNDER THE BOAT! Seats were moldy, everything was filthy. The temp gauge didn't even work. I know.....I know.....

Once I parted with my 79 crisp one hundred dollar bills, I then log on to see how I did! Stupid huh? The guy I bought it from only owned it 2 years....thank goodness. It would have been totally destroyed in a few more years.

Just wanted to write a thank you to iboats and it's members for all the help I have received so far. I am hopeful I can help others in some fashion one day.

Here is a list of repairs and mods I have completed, thanks to this wonderful resource for boaters, called iboats. You members are a special breed as you help others just because.... you don't expect anything in return or ask for anything, yet you continue to answer the same questions over and over, and help people become better boaters. And I list only the items that I did, I can't even begin to tell you how much I have learned on subject from Anchors to Wakeboarding....

temp sender (non OEM gasket)
Speedo
Faria warranty program (3 faulty gauges)
oil change and type
oil pressure sender
fuel sender
compression test
spark plug analysis
water pump replacmement
impeller replacement
lower and upper mercruiser alpha 1, gen 2 rebuild
trim tabs
propeller (results pending....lol)
waxing
swim platform
stereo upgrade, speaker install, amp, etc...
gps install
Tune - up (complete)
rode how to's (anchor)
alarm replacement
ignition switch (pending)
FREE manuals (free hell, try PRICELESS)

THANKS!

Happy Boating,
David

I, just like you have, have gained a wealth of knowledge here after having virtually no proper knowledge on boats and boating. It's a pretty nice forum with tons of helpful people.

At least you didn't have to redo your stringers though

This is a great forum.....it helps alot. It also makes you do things. like tint your windows, buy bigger bilge pumps, buy smarttabs, buy better anchors, buy marine vinyl and re-do your own interior.....See the theme here?:D lol. I have spent money, but have saved $$$ just from being on here and reading things. its a great DIY forum, not many of those around. And, one that is this active.

I second the OP. I've only been on for the past few days trying to gauge what first boat I should buy and have received a tremendous wealth of knowledge. I'll be around here for a long time!!!

Thanks again to all!

After buying my 14'fiberglass runabout wreck i found the site. I now have 200% more knowledge than when I started (which was ZERO). Just by reading thru alot and looking at your pics.

COULD NOT DO IT WITHOUT THIS SITE. THANKS iBOAT AND COMPANY

Re: I just want to say, Thank You Members!

there is more to i boats than that.....

this is a real family of people here.....i know iboaters from all over the world that i call firends...this forum is really special...

heck last week i was talking to a bud from austrailia...we were inviting each others familys to stay a week or two.

the more you are on here the better it gets......i have met in person no less than 15 i boaters. all are good friends.

in my opinion.....one of the reasons is that it is really well moderated. there is no bashing of people here.....no jerks allowed.. just people helping people.
and the mods also really know there stuff......i mean really know it.

any how.....glad you all like it here as much as i do....

cheers

You know that 200% of ZERO is still ZERO, right?

Re: I just want to say, Thank You Members!

I am a fairly new member too and iboats has helped a lot. It sure makes repairs and maintanance easier when you can ask questions. I did buy a factory service manual for my outboard, but there are a lot of gray areas it seems. Asking questions on here and getting great answers sure clears up those areas. Thanks eveyone!!
