I am new to this sport and am loving it if i could only quit the faceplants! I watch the videos on youtube, and i watch my son get massive air and clear the wake without trying. I see in the pictures that my arms are straight out in front of me while I'm in the air and that my legs are still bent alittle coming off the wake. Like skaeboarding...do i olie coming off the wake or come off of it with striaght legs? I am being pulled by an 21ft i/o doing 21 GPS slowing down going outside the wake and coming back in at around 18-19GPS. Thank You!

Keep you legs/arms slightly bent and when you hit the wake lean back just a bit and push off with your legs. Onlt time I ever totally strightend my arms was when I was leaning into a turn and cutting back in.

Heel side or toe side? When you approach the wake your knees should be semi bent edging all the way through the wake and at the top your just standing tall.

Start with just 1/2 wake jumps, doing w2w jumps requires a harder edging and a good pop. When your edging you should also be leaning away from the boat.

Watch this..same concept for heel side just switch hands.

toe side...the vidoes and my son say that heel side jumps with your back away from boat is alot harder...i will try standing tall at the top and edgeing all the into the wake...i have been getting as wide as possible and hitting the wake straight on...i guess the angle of the board again the wake coming at you provides the right launch angle. thanks

i noticed in the video that the wake from the boat is huge and smooth....HOW? more weight in the back or on one side, motor trimmed up...that kind of wake would be fun to jump with! thank again for video link!

Wakes like that are produced by Inboard/ V-drive boats and a fair amount of ballast.... I/O's will never make such a nice wake if thats what your being towed behind, even if you throw in 1,000lbs of ballast. There will always be some chop.

Keep edging all the way into the wake, and put the rope handle down by your leading hip.

are you getting bucked? Landing front foot heavy is usualy a result of being back foot heavy on the release off the wake... make sure your weight is distributed evenly when approaching the wake.

One of the best things to do before trying to go airborne, especially on toe side, is to cut out away from the wake and hold your edge for a few seconds, as in until you start to either fall over, or pull the boat around. This conditions your muscles for memory. Handle should be at the waist level for most tricks, and for landings the handle must be held in closer to alleviate having your arm ripped off or having the handle pop. You should never already be at full arm extension when landing. Learning to land on edge will also make the landing much smoother. Flat is not good and the front edge...well, leaves you with a sinus/eye flush and a headache.

To learn the proper edge for jumping, shorten the rope, and take short cuts (Would be just outside the white wash of the wake on a comp boat, so maybe 10 feet max). The cuts should start with a gentle turn that then puts you hard on edge, building the most energy right at the wake. You won't have a lot of speed, so it will force you to edge all the way up the wake. In turn you will go up higher, but not fly as far. For some more advanced tricks, like spins, this cut comes into play a lot. Plus it is a much smoother landing on the second wake, not out in the flats. Once you learn the proper edging techniques, you will be able to rail the wake for the HUGE floaty tricks way out into the flats. Can you say "Tantrum!" Where you put your weight distribution also matters. Typically most tricks for now will require you to be front foot heavy. This will give you the pop needed. Try really standing on your front leg on take off and you will see a big difference. Again try it with short cuts first.
