i cant stop dwelling on the thought of a bigger, newer boat. man its all i do is get on craigslist or boatrader. what is so bad i was giving an 89 15ft glasstream by a lady emergency room doctor. probably 5 years ago i drug it home. cleaned it up and got it running, its very dependable but i like to bass, crappie and catfish. it just dont have any room. i change my mind daily about going into debt for a newer one. then ill look at something bigger i could buy with cash. whipe out my savings dumb i know it. ive wasted so much time and gas money traveling to look at boats. come home and dwell on the boat for days and in the end still got the old glasstream. i think they call it the brett favre syndrome.

Re: i know you went through this. i got it bad

Here's what i do when i get the hankerin for a bigger boat.

I go to the local dealer and get on the biggest and most expensive boat they have. Then i just there and imagine im out on the water and going to some island, or what ever. Basicly i go on an adventure.

I get a whole weekend in, in about an hour or so.

Its fun (for me anyway) and it didnt cost me a dime. But then again im kinda cheap....:D

All I gotta say to the Mrs. is honey I found... and she responds you gotta get rid of the boat we have 1st. I think it will take a few more years of work to get her to change her mind and realize that ya need a skinny and deep water boat.

Somebody told me it's "2-footitis". If I only had a boat that was 2 feet longer, I'd be satisfied... It rang pretty true with me.

Ah yes... Even when I'm buying a boat, I get that last minute "there's probably something bigger/better right around the corner.. blah blah. I own 2 boats right now, but one is going to the scrap yard, and the other I just dragged down from NY. Eventually, I'll probably end up with 2 boats again in the future. The Center console I have now, and a nice size cabin cruiser. ;)

15ft is kinda small (especially for a big guy like myself... I think I'd just go around in circles) so I'd sell it and use the money to upgrade!

Well, if your boating activities aren't going to change, don't bother.

It all depends on what you want out of a boat. For example, mine is a weekend waterfront condo. A getaway. Someplace where I can go and drink and relax and look at the gorgeous views, BS with the other boaters and recharge.

That's what I wanted, that's what I got, and I'm very happy with what I spent for what I got.
I'm no expert but if what you got works for what you want out of the water, keep it. If it doesn't, find a boat that does. IMO size matters but only because of what you want out of your hobby. New isn't better, just newer. New won't make you happy, size alone won't either. The "right" boat will.

Good point Werthert:) I go throught the same thing, I want another boat but for differant reasons. I will still keep Waven' Bye but would like another for longer lake cruises and a house boat too, frustrating because I don't have the money right now to do all. So ya I go through it too.

I have some bad news for you. I have gone through this. With my first boat, an O/B, I wanted an I/O. When I got it, I wanted bigger. Now I have that. Guess what, now I want bigger AND faster. It never goes away.

Look seriously at what you have, look at ways to make it fit more your needs/wants. If it can't be done, SAVE more$$ to get the one you want and not break the bank.

To make it easier on yourself: If you bought something now, it'd just sit for the next 6 months anyhow. ;-)

I just bought a boat. It got shrink wrapped and stored immediately. All that research, thought, excitement...now on hold for 6 months. I just comb these forums every day to tide me over. ;)

Re: i know you went through this. i got it bad

I was in the "same boat" a couple of months ago..I remembered what it was like making boat payments (sucko) expecially for season use here in Nebraska. I never got my "moneys worth" out of my new Bassboat. When I decided to get another boat, I looked at new, but didnt want to go thru the same "payments forever" trap, so I decided on used.. I knew getting used was risky & there would be things I would have to address & things I had to fix (ie: fuel leak & rusty wheels).. BUT at least it was paid for. I have a list of things I want to tinker with, replace the wheels, brake pads, wheel bearings, convert trailer lights to LED, install lighting IN the boat, install locks on the compartments, switch to synthetics, update the stereo, new trolling motor... just to name a few.. BUT I like doing that kinda stuff. I can do it as my leasure. Again, at least its paid for so if it just sits in the garage for a few weeks.... no big deal. No payments !
ALL THAT said, if you dont want to do any of that tinkering, and you live in an area where you can fish/boat all year around, and you have good income & reserves...A new boat maybe right for you !
Good luck in your decision....
(OH did I mention, I want to upgrade my motor from 135? to 175hp ?
Probably will never get done $$$$$$$ ) :(

guess i got it too. but not real bad. i'm think i'm a realist. i know i can't afford anything bigger. while i do go look at the ads for bigger. that's all the further i get. no point in antagonizing myself i don't figure. also. there's a lot to be said for this statement.

especially the last statement. the ''right'' boat will. i've got the right boat for me. it does what i want it to and i couldn't be a happier boater...
another thing that'll keep ya happy is. just think about the maint. ya do to your boat now. bigger will be more maint. more dollars, more everything...

enjoy what ya got. in the world, there's many folks out there that don't even eat. having any boat is a real privilege and i myself, consider myself lucky i have any boat.....

Re: i know you went through this. i got it bad

An old salt told his son, a friend of mine, "A monkey doesn't let go of one branch until he has his hands on another." He was referring to boats, not girlfriends. If you sell your boat you might not get the next one--that money can get grabbed by luxury items such as food, heat, etc. Better to buy tje second one and then sell the first one--and if you find you can't get much for the first one you'll keep it.
I klnow, economically, this doesn't work for everyone, and is hard to do if yo are into high-cost financed boats that don't hold their value. But if you are trading around the old boats, especially center console OB's, jon boats, etc. it works.
