<<... i got it bad .....>>

I spent decades with that disease. If you're young, there's no real cure, because there's no perfect boat. The boats get bigger/faster/slower/wider as you and your family's needs change. Canoes, fishing boats, ski boats, RIBs, houseboats, cruisers, a trawler, on and on...
Then one day it hits you, as the disease goes into remission: It was bound to; the old body gets tired, so the boat stays tied to the dock or on the trailer more than ever. It's a hassle to get enough help to take her out; a hassle to keep her sparkling, a hassle to pay for it all..... It's time to scale back. I did just that in several steps, and couldn't be happier. A pic of my latest is enclosed. It's a geezer boat (14' aluminum) perfect for me and the dog. I've had more time on the water (TOW) with this boat than I can ever remember with the others. I launch it 2-3 times a week, weather permitting, and have a ball. No polishing, no yard fees, no payments, no hassle. ;-)
So just enjoy yourself. Boating is the greatest way to spend your time; a great refresher. You'll know what's right for you. Maybe a bigger boat is right, then a smaller one later. Just keep it realistic, and have a ball.

Something to consider, too:

When you have a smaller, trailer boat, you leave it in your driveway, you hook it up and tow it where you wanna go...you don't have time to use it, you don't.

Once you get bigger, its more hassle, takes more people and more time and more gas to operate...

My neighbor has a 17.5 ft Searay with a 125 outboard. He keeps fantasizing about a bigger boat, but his boat is perfect for him...he doesn't winterize, he doesn't fret, he wants to go out he can walk out his door, hook up his trailer and drive the 15 miles, all in less than 30 mins...out on the water. A bigger boat, me thinks means that will take longer, be more expensive, and generally a larger pain in the rump. ;)

Another more serious condition is MBS, Multiple Boat Syndrome. I and many other forum members have experienced severe episodes of MBS. It thrives on the opportunity weakness and can strike at any moment. I was lucky and maxed out at only four boats in the yard. My First Mate has contributed to the severity of my attacks by making comments such as "this boat is too small" and "the aluminum boat makes too much noise". Good luck!

In my case, MBS would destroy my marriage. I suffered from a similar affliction, MMS or multiple motorcycle syndrome. Fortunately I was able to be cured before the marriage failed. It was close.

Regarding "two-footitis," when I was first shopping for a boat a dealer once warned me of the phenomenon when I was looking at a 17 foot Glastron. It was an I/O with hardly any interior deck room, so I could see where he was coming from. Then I discovered aluminum boats. More expensive, but much more room and less hassle towing than a glass boat with comparable interior space. Ended up with a 17 1/2 foot tinny with easily removable seats that has all the room needed for fishing or cruising with wife and two golden retrievers.

Yep, agree with Subliminal on this one. Sometimes a bigger boat means more work and planning ahead, but with a smaller rig you can often just look at the weather and say, "Ok, let's go!"

Funny how MSS (Multiple Shoe Syndrome) is always forgotten about when the wife brings up MBS.

For me, looking is more than half the fun. I've been looking at boats for so long, it's practically a hobby now.

In the beginning, I wanted all those boats. Now I only see their flaws.

It comes from doing so many project boats.

Join us.

Buy an old 18' Starcraft tinny and become one with so many members of iBoats. We are planning the complete takeover (oops did I say that out loud).

Really. Sounds like a good, open tinny would suit you. Decide open or closed bow (i prefer open for my fishing).

I'm happy to say I got 2 footitis.....self-medicated.....and am now cured :)
There is no cure. It only goes into remission.

It could be worse, I don't get 2 footitis, I get 6 footitis.
15ft Trihull---->21ft Cuddy, now I'm starting to get the itch for a 27ft cruiser.:redface:

Hello my name is home cookin' and I have MBS: including boats I own with others and at my hunting/fishing club:
12' Jon
12' plastic gamefisher
13' canoe
13' whaler (1964-my dad's boat I grew up in)
14' Lowe jon
14' starcraft tinny (leaks, abandoned)
15' cypress lap strake (under repair for 30 years)
17' Key West
17' folbot rigid sea kayak
19' Carolina Skiff
21' Sea Hunt CC

Plus I bought and sold a 17' CC and kept the motor this summer.

Add 4 trailers to maintain in case you run out of things to fix.

That's two foot itis running up 167 feet of boat! Be careful out there. It's catching. The medical term is "varicose" since most are broken vessels!

"Geezer" boats are great. Just got my first boat this year, 16' Jon. I sometime's dream about bigger but I couldn't do what I do now. We hookup anytime we want and within 15 min. can be at any one of four different lakes. It holds the two of us and two dogs comfortably and we have a blast.
And like said, the main thing is were out on the water.:)

Yeah, I am like bekosh, I have 5-8 ftitus. I have an 18' center, but really want something between a 23-26' boat.

Alot is how you use it, but I want to be more stable and comfortable offshore, but still be trailerable to be able to take to the lake 2 hours away...

To make it easier on yourself: If you bought something now, it'd just sit for the next 6 months anyhow. ;-)

I just bought a boat. It got shrink wrapped and stored immediately. All that research, thought, excitement...now on hold for 6 months. I just comb these forums every day to tide me over. ;)

I did the same a couple of months ago, only I managed to get mine on the water a couple of times before it got stored away. ;)

2-footitus for me only turned out to be 8-inches longer, but about 1 1/2-foot wider and 75 more hp. It started over the summer when my 2 kids and Mom started tagging along on my fishing outings. Mom thought we needed more room and stability, and the kids thought they needed to be pulled around in a tube. I really had no intention of getting a new boat, but once the familiy started in on it, it was only a matter of time.

We're all addicted to some degree. I've just discovered that Hurricane makes a CC deckboat & I'm drooling. My 13 year old SUV has 183000 miles on it, but I'd rather spend my money on a boat. However, both are paid for, so I'll just enjoy what I have for now. My retirment dream is a live-aboard;)

Dude get a Hurricane!

They rock! I wanted the 211CC sooooo bad! But I was inflected with the itus in both directions. My hurricane is 1.5' wider, and 1.0' longer than my Bayliner = 2.5' itus... I also dream of a cuddy, or having a camper top put on the Hurricane! Just need to get rid of my 1969 Plymouth Barracuda to finance my disease! Anyone interested in this terrestrial vehicle? Actually I'd really love to restore a Starcraft tinny! I got it bad dudes! MUST SEEK COUNSOLER! :D
