What a dumb-a** I am! While backing my boat down a ramp I had my drivers side door open about a foot. Don't know why, since I was looking over my right shoulder. Anyway, crunch...smashed the edge of the door into a pier support. $1700+ worth of damage (needs door & fender). Time to join "Morons R Us", I guess

Ouch, that's a shame.
I've come close to doing the same, but always managed to luck out.
Hope you enjoyed your day of boating at least

Was a great day, until the boat got stuck in some clay... but that's another story!

bummer... going backwards downhill with the door open... reminds me of a friend of mine. He went out and bought a brand new toyota supra when they first came out and were on the cover of every car mag. Was very pricey, but he was a single guy who had just started his "real" job. It's about 3 weeks old and he decides to do the first oil change himself (get rid of filings from break in etc), he puts it on ramps, drains oil and decides for whatever reason to let the car down off the ramps before adding oil. He does that with the driver door open. It catches the fence and a loose nail punches hole & catches the door panel. Car is now 1/2 down ramps, held by jammed door. His quick solution is to fire it up and try and drive it back up the ramps (which he eventually manages to do)... Of course this takes a few tries and he's running his brand new car and rev'ing away with no oil in the motor. He had it for a few years after, and true to form he had trashed it pretty bad by the time he was done with it.

So, don't beat yourself up too bad, there's always someone worse out there!! I remember this guy whenever I'm buying something used out of the paper. Buyer beware.

Backing out of the yard I opened the door to yell at dog not to leave yard, caught door on fencepost and wrapped it all the way to front fender. Late for work so had to bend it back as best as I could and tie it part way open and drive to work in rain and cold. President of Morons R Us.
