I Lost a piece of my pontoon railing-where to find another

In the process of taking our pontoon apart to redo it, we've lost the port side front corner piece of our railing. I pretty much know where it got left, but can't get it back as of yet. We took our seats to be re-upholstered, and at that time we were not planning on replacing the aluminum panels inside the rails, so we took the smallest piece with us to match as best we could, the new vinyl for the seats to the panel color. I have no doubt the piece got set aside while we were talking and got left there, but we went back down there yesterday and he said he remembered us bringing it down, but was sure we took it home. Personally, I think he is holding it hostage to get more money out of us. Why? Maybe cause I made him mad when I asked him to redo one of the fishing seats that had some deep scratches in the "new" vinyl. I didn't think that was an unreasonable request, but maybe he did. All I know is he said he might just know of someone that has one that will fit our boat. Wouldn't that be a coincidence seeing how our boat is 21 years old. Ok, so all that said, where should I start looking for a piece to replace it. Who might have used pontoon rails, or even a new one, if it's the correct size? We can't afford to buy an entire new playpen at $1600 + for our 24' pontoon, so I really need to find just this piece if there's even a chance of that. Any suggestions on where to start would be greatly appreciated, as we are getting close (a few weeks probably) to putting the rails back on, but can't do it without that piece. We can't even do the aluminum in the rest of it until we know if we're going to have to replace the entire playpen. I'm not sure if my pictures are going to show up properly, I might have done it wrong, but our pontoon is a 1992 Fisher Freedom 240 24' and the piece lost will match the pieces in my pictures but without the gate. It is 66 1/2 inches from end to end measuring around the corner along the bottom rail.27 1/2 along the front to the middle of the curve, and 39 from the middle of the curve to the end along the side. Thanks for any suggestions.

Some times you just have to suck it up and call it a loss. I would go back to the guy and see if he can contact the guy with the "replacement" part and make the best deal you can. You will know when you get it if it's your original one or not. If this doesn't work out, have a welding shop make a replacement is likely your best option.

Re: I Lost a piece of my pontoon railing-where to find another

So the part he showed up with was not our original part. His place is the ONLY place I know we took that railing. He did GIVE us the one he had, which came from a dealer and he knew. It had the siding damaged so they were gonna scrap it. Anyway, we brought it home thinking we could get it cut down to work, but it is so different in style, such as different railing, supports on the inside not the outside like ours, etc, it just isn't going to work. I did ask the guy at the metal fab shop about fabricating us one from scratch, but he said it would cost a FORTUNE. Like $500 to make just that one railing. Does that sound reasonable?? I've about decided we're going to just have to cut down the front starboard side to make it straight and wrap our two side gates around the front to meet the newly cut and straightened side part on each side, and just have an open deck on the front. That will cause us to loose our two side gates and give us less space inside the rails, but I don't know what else to do. Does ANYONE know of ANY pontoon / boat junkyards anywhere in the US? I cannot locate any anywhere, and it seems like there should be some out there, considering all the boats that get damaged and destroyed in hurricanes and such, where do those boats go?

Try the local scrap yards, I bet yours will show up there. Give them a picture and just wait a bit.
