Man what a jump!
Short story is my brother submarined both his small flats boat and!!!!! his med. size bucket truck at the same time He said the truck started to roll back after he had hooked the boat. He jumped in but at that point the truck went off the end of the ramp He said "well when the cab started filling with water(salt water) I just swam out and watched it go under".
Is that a crappy day or what ? (Apr. 5)
Now he said if ya want the outboard go get it. I did. It's a 2006 Honda 25hp 4 stroke. I washed it down good with fresh water, drained the carburetors (spelling) and pumped fresh gas in and out a few times. I pulled the plugs dumped Marvel Mystery Oil in each cylinder, turned it over and did it again.
What else should I do?

If I recall correctly, you need to completely tear it down and clean, relube and reassemble it when dunked in salt water.

Grab the manual from the ADULTS ONLY section and look up 'emmersion in salt water', as there is a section on the manual for just this process.

The truck is a total loss. I think the outboard will never be right ever again.

Ok free stuff brother,getting sunk in salt is never good but is not the end of the world.Time is paramount here and you are running out.Purge that fuel system entirely and change the oil and be ready to change it a few times more.Will this thing turn over with the starter?If not pull the plugs and get something in those cylinders like storage seal and spin this thing over by hand.This ignition is pretty forgiveing to submursion and it does'nt sound like you where down that long.The focus now is to get it running ASAP and let it run for awhile.Deal with all the problems that WILL crop up later.Good luck.

SW get's into and under places you'll never know untill it causes a failure. IMHO, best thing you could do is to ASAP submirge/soak (not just spray) the whole motor in clean, fresh, (& warm) water to really rinse/flush EVERYthing. ( Use kiddie pool or 50 gal drum?) . I'd let it sit in there a good hour and swish it around a bit too.) Once out, then dry everything with a blow dryer and sprey water displacing lubricants as required. I would also plan on replacing all fluids at least 2-3 times in the next 20-50 hrs just to make sure you got all the water/salt out. If you get to it fast enough, I bet it runs as good as new for a long time.

BTW: At work, we routinly get in electronic test sets that have been submerged /dropped inot salt water. First thing we do is soak them in distilled water. Takes a while be we usually get them up and running again.

FWIW, We had a 70's vintage 50 merc on an old Larson runabout that used to sink at the family lake almost yearly. ( read: hard rain, kids left the radio/lights on to kill the battery) Sometimes it would be in a whole day or two. i'd pull it out, clean it up, dry it off and run it again. Every year for 6-8 years (as memory recalls). Finally retired it due to carb troubles and the availability of a new /donated OB.

I did change out the oil yesterday, also got it running. It's not pumping water. My brother said he had a new water pump put not long ago?

Not pumping water isn't a symptom of a motor that got submerged (while not running/shut down.) .

I'd try blowing a little low pressure air into the pee hole and see if it's just a tell tale clog.

I'll give that a try, I have tomorrow off. I did clear the line from the intake to the pee hole on top of the motor. I like the the thought......thanks!
I have also changed the oil a few times, and still fire it up and shut it down every day. Yes it was not running as far as I know.
