I may have just screwed up my 4.3L!

Well, I decided to change my oil last night and got my pump and everything all together. I then put the tube down the dip stick tube and put the other end in a bucket. Well, I started pumping and nothing was happening. I then realized I was pumping the wrong way. That would have been fine but I then noticed that there was a little bit of water in the bucket! I have no idea if some actually went into the oil pan. I have been freaking out all last night because I am afraid I have possibly ruined my engine. Is there anything I can do to make sure no water entered my crank case???

i would pump everything out you can than with some luck you should be able to remove the drain plug from the oil pan and see if you get a littel more<br /><br />after that theres not much to do but put in clean oil and filter run a bit and see how it looks <br /><br /><br />motors live through getting water in the oil as long as you catch it right away like you did <br /><br /><br />if it shows any sign of water you can just change it again<br /><br /><br />tommays

Did you get the oil pumped out last night? Did you notice any water in what came out? If some water was pumped into the crankcase you should have no problems as long as you didn't run it. If you can reach your drain plug pull it out and let it drain. I really don't think you will have problems, it didn't circulate through the motor it was just sitting in the pan for a little bit. It will be OK!

Do what they suggested, and I would also make sure the very next run of the boat is a long one (enough to get the oil hot for a period of time) to burn off any excess water left in.

Ok, those are good points you have made. I will upscrew the drain plug and get the rest out. I didn't see oil and water seperation in the oil being pumped out but you never know. I about had a heart attack when I noticed there was water in the bucket! I thought.. oh SH@T! Some how I always seem to make the simple task 10X harder then they need to be. <br /><br />Anyway, I also thought I could fill it back up with oil and then drain it again. I also heard that you can put Seafoam in the crankcase and it will help dry out the crankcase. I held off on that since I do not want to put anything in my crankcase before getting advise.

Filling it and draining again won't help. Water is heavier than oil and will just sit on the bottom. I don't recommend putting seafoam in there. Just do what's been suggested and you should be fine. Just make that first run a nice long one to boil off the water. Easy. <br /><br />Chris...........

Simply change the oil, then take it out and get it under load and keep it there until every thing is good and toasty (1/2 hour fine). Water boils at 212, oil runs hotter than that splashing around the hot piston and walls. And that water does not sit on the bottom of the pan when running, it mixes with the oil. Boils into steam, and out the breather. Problem solved<br />PS. Go to the FAQ'S section and read the "Making Oil" post....people do more damage just using there boats than you did (not) do...
