I need a 1997 4.3 vortec long block or comparable

I have a barely used 1997 Wellcraft Excel 21S. Bought with 16 hours on it and went to drive it home and blew the head gasket. Didn't know the thermostat was stuck and there she blew..In need of one a.s.a.p. If another motor is available, i.e. 305, 350 and so on, that you know are compatable w/ Volvo/Bravo One then please let me know. Very non-knowlegeable on swapping or interchanging..Let me know if I can put a different one in or if you have an avenue for a longblock.. ophillys@verizon.net Chris

I have a 5.7 volvo penta engine that I removed from my 1994 wellcraft excel 260 that I recently purchased. I had it removed in favour of installing a 383 stroker to add more torque to this reletivly heavy cruiser. The engine has been inspected by a master automotive mechanic and he tells me it is a repower engine with very low hrs. The static compression is within 3 psi on all 8 cylinders and all other parts look like new. I was going to install a mild marine performance cam and performer intake have it dyno checked, tuned and certified and find a 19 to 23 ft hull to install it in. If you have any interest in this package I will sell it for a reasonable price and shipping to Florida from here takes 10 days to 2 weeks, at least thats how long it takes me to get large items from there. If all thats wrong is a stuck thermostat and blown head gasket, fix it. That is unless you seized the engine due to the resulting overheat.

It wouldn't be hard to swap from a 4.3 to a 5.7 Volvo to Volvo swap, some new exhaust parts. BUT, the drive would have to have the gear ratio changed for the V6 to V8 swap. Changing props would do the job.<br />You would also have to stick with Volvo SX drive, Mercruiser drives are not interchangable.
