i need a wiring diagram or parts list diagram 72 100hp

i have a 1972 100hp evinrude O/B . A small solinoid or something on the back of the motor where all the wires are has burnt out, wire burnt up. Need a new part it is shaped like a triangle in the center is a name varo r315 d263 it is held on by two screws, each a different size. it had 3 wire comeing from it, one black, two yellow. the yellow wires were connected to the 3 screw on the row of connectors and the ther yello was connected to the 5 screw. there are 14 screws on that connector row. what is the importance of that part, and where do i get it. What you describe sounds like the rectifier for the charging circuit. You have the model number of the engine and year go to any shop that deals with OMC parts and they can get you a new one. Use the phone book and treat it just like if you were looking for a part for your car. Probably between 30-50 bucks and easy to replace just do the wires one at a time swap. First, you need to figure out why the old one fried. Inspect all the wires carefully that come from the terminal block and make sure that none of them frayed and grounded out on the powerhead block. Or, if you hooked up your battery backwards by accident that will fry the rectifier darn near immediateley. Sometimes if its just old they die with time. Overheating will also kill the rectifier. It takes the unregulated AC produced by the flywheel magnets/coils and converts it to 12.4-13ish DC volts. Get a Seloc manual (opinions on manuals vary) but that's what I have for my '82 rude and the electric diagram portion is pretty good if you have a basic understanding of electric diagrams. Don't run it with the bad rectifier as your battery is getting no charge.

would this part keep the motor from starting? I coould not get it to fire so i started looking for problems, that is when i found the rectifier was no good. Thanks Tim

napa didnt carry a rectifier that would fit, their book did not list a 1972 model. htey had one that looked like it but it was for a 1971. the parti have has the following part number 510885 says varor315 p263 7210 are all i can find on the part. Help me out if you can. Thanks Tim
