Hello. Last week a friend of mine took me out on his boat. I don't remember the make but it was remarkable. Its in the upper 40 foot range and has twin CAT diesels. Its an offshore fishing boat he uses for tuna.

Anyway, he took some of us out fishing. We had a good time and caught some fish. My problem is that he had some sort of adapter thing in his rod holders that liked to stick to the bottom of the rod when you pulled it out. I guess it was to keep the rod from going too far into the holder. At least 2 other guys had them drop onto the deck when "unholstering" but of course mine went overboard. I felt like a tool.

Does anyone know what these things are or where I can get them? He said not to worry about it but I want to replace it. I'll probably get him 2 since it's obviously going to happen again the way they are designed.

Thanks for any help you can give. It's a spectacular boat and I felt really bad because he's very anal about his boat too.

Are you sure it was part of the rod holder and not part of the rod? Some rods have a rubber cover that you keep on the rod unless your using it in a rod belt.

Kemo is likely correct. Probably fits the type of rod he uses verses the rod holder itself. Generally 2 types are used. One is smooth and the other is slotted. A rubber butt cap.

........... I felt like a tool.

I understand. The XO makes me feel that way, too!!!

Actually I believe you are referring to the liner for the rod holders. I have lost several over the years from our V-20. I never could find replacements. However, I did find that 1-1/4" PVC (from memory) fit 'snugger' than the original liners. Insert a length of PVC into the rod holder, scribe a line to mark the tappered end, cut-off with a band saw, trim and radius the tappered end with a pocket knife and file.
The white PCV looks right at home in my rod holders. I even made a spare but am yet to loose another!! :)
