Hey guys, big fan of iBoats' forum, I have picked up several things from your inputs and tried to apply them to my issues, slowly but surely. My issue for the past 2 weeks is that I am unable to identify the year of my mercruiser motor, someone removed the ID tag with the engine number. The only two numbers I am able to pull from the block is 19172756, and GM14097293. I have to trace and test the ignition wires because turning the key I only get the electric fuel pump to turn on but no rotation or any sounds from the engine, the only option I have right now is jumping the solenoid to get it to turn but even then I cannot get the motor to rotate. After I bought the motor I took it to mercruiser and those guys were not able to identify the year making it real difficult to buy corresponding parts. The only information they were able to give me was that it was a late 80s or early 90s and that is the information I used to purchase the starter, I do feel that this information is incorrect. I also eel that maybe the starter is not correct for the motor. I can only find casted in the block "4.3LG V6. I need help so any information or direction you can give me would be great. I can post pictures if requested to help better identify.... I appreciate you guys and keep it up. Thanks

Post a picture of the distributor, fuel pump, and carb (without flame arrestor) also check your outdrive for a serial number (port side of the upper gear box on and under the decal.

Please view attached. I know that the outdrive does not match the motor because this is the motor that the guy used to replace what was originally there, which I have no idea what that was. Thanks

You have Thunderbolt IV ignition system, with that fuel pump and filter setup, would put the engine as a 92 or 93.
That carb was also used on the 92-93 engine.

Here is a Merc service bulletin that may also help.

It's a 4.3 v6 with a weber 4 brl carburetor, electric fuel pump and thunderbolt 4 ignition. my guess would be 1992-94
