I need help with my 6 HP Yachtwin motor

I have a 6 HP Yachtwin motor that I bought brand new in 1994. I used it for a couple of years with no problems and then it sat until now. I did not prepare the motor for storage, just stopped using it. So I fired it up and it ran for a few seconds until gas came pouring out of the top vent in the carberator and then it died. I took it to have a tune up and the carberator rebuilt. The boat shop said that it was running great. I get it down to the boat launch ramp and gas starts pouring out the top vent again and then the engine dies. I keep restarting it but this keeps happening. I take it home and hook it up to the garden hose and it runs great again with no fuel coming from the top vent. I am getting frustrated and I need some ideas on what might be wrong.

Easy Fix, sounds like the float/ inlet needle is sticking and not shutting off the fuel supply. It could be some gum/varnish they missed when they cleaned it, or you need a new inlet needle/seat-not as likely. The pin on the pivot of the float could be sticking causing the problem as well. The fuel supply is not being shut off when the carburetor bowl is full and thats why it overflows on you. It likely was fine when you got it back home because either you tilted/jarred the motor enough that the float/needle loosened up and seated properly and all was fine again. It likely will need to be taken apart again, but you could try lightly tapping on the carb/bowl area with the handle of a screwdriver or something if it does it again and it will probably stop flooding over.
