I recently purchased a 1998 Merc 25 hp ob. It runs fine when you first start it and run it. The problem occurs after it has set for awhile, say like while you are fishing, then go to start it to take off to a more productive spot. The motor starts ok and idles ok (maybe a little slow if anything) but when you twist the tiller throttle to take off it sputters and dies. If you finesse the throttle back and forth it will eventually kick in and run fine all the way up to, and including, full throttle. Can anyone give me any advice on what I should be looking for. I'm not an expert mechanic by any means but I can do ok if given a little direction. Thanks for the help - I really can't afford a mechanics bill right now.
