First off, welcome to iboats.

As far as more power, you have all you are going to get out of a 3.0L.
Change the engine and drive would be your best bet.
Begs the question why you bought a brand new UNDERPOWERED boat to begin with.

Re: i need help

Why do you think you need more HP? What are you trying to accomplish?

Having hit my head on the hull several times I've decided that my boat is over engineered. That glass is just much thicker than it needs to be. I figure shaving off 1/4" from the entire hull will lighten the load quite a bit. That'll help!!

Don is shaking now 'cuz knowing me he thinks I'm serious... ;)

The short serious answer is you aren't going to do anything to that engine to help it out. Depending on what you are trying to accomplish for instance looking for a better hole shot, skiing, tubing etc, a prop change may help.

But you aren't going to get much out of that little thing.

Is it okay to assume the salesperson told you that you would have plenty of power?

Re: i need help

Even this new EFI Volvo 3.0 of the future rated for 150HP has me doubting the honesty of the rating.... injecting the fuel can't make 12% more HP....

Add a camshaft change and it's a different story. :)

Re: i need help

All a camshaft does is move the torque curve around more to the top end and increases top end RPM. Unfortunately that kills low end torque so he'd need a tow to get on plane.

And the overlap would suck all that nice water into the engine.

Re: i need help

Well,

That depends....

Take the boat out on the water and run it wide open with a full fuel tank and say 3 people in it.

At "wide open throttle" (WOT) is your RPM at or near the max RPM for that engine? If so going to a 2" less pitch might get you out of the water but you'll lose some of the top end and you might be up against the rev limiter at the top end. Won't hurt anything but it'll reduce your upper end performance.

If the WOT RPM is a couple hundred or so below the max rated RPM for the engine then you might benefit going from a 21 to a 19.

(did you say how big this boat is? 21p sounds a little "tall" for a 4-banger in any boat.....of course not knowing the drive ratio and how big the boat is..... it's impossible to say I guess.....)

Cheers,

Same torque at a higher rpm equals more horsepower. No comment on the feasibility.:)
