I have a 1997 procraft bass boat, it has a 75 horsepower force outboard motor. I was in the river an hit a submerged log, my motor would not go forward or reverse, so after getting off the river i changed out the prop cause i thought it was a spun hub after putting the prop back on i still had the same problem. Does anybody know whats going on here?

Well, that engine has Mercury control cables with plastic ends. Before I did anything else, I would check inside the engine to see if feedback broke a shift cable end. Then I would check the shift linkage to see if the upper and lower rods have been forced apart. If that is OK, then I would start checking the lower unit for internal damage

The boat will go into gear but once its in gear the prop won't spin and the engine just revs up.What do u think the problem would be in the LU?

Drop your lower unit and check to make sure you did not shear the drive shaft..........

Broken shaft or gears.
If you hear it go into gear but not spinning, then the out put shaft is probably broken.

Alright it sounds like u guys are on the right track, but when i put it into neutral the prop still spins while running! Would it do that if it was something wrong with the shaft?

Re: I need help

Well after all the bs I finally pulled Off the LU and after digging around for awhile I found that the prop shaft is broke. The grooves that line up with the gears and drive shaft look like they have been rubbed off so a new prop shaft 300 bucks and about 75dollars an hour for the marina to fix it!!!!
