I need mercruiser 260 serial number

I have a 1981 Sea Ray SRV225 that I purchased last year. It had a mercruiser 260 in it, but had no mercruiser serial number anywhere; it did have brass freeze plugs!
When I need to order parts I need a serial #. Anyone have any suggestions
I had water & oil issue and said to myself I know nothing about this motor, probably not a boat motor. I decided not to put any more $ in an unknown motor. So I got a short block, honed and re-ringed, new bearings, new timing chain, new brass freeze plugs, and new marine cam.

Here is what I have now:

1969-85 350 cast 2.45 2.10 3.48 replacement

Motor:
Block #: 3970014
1970-1976 Chevy 350

Front Block Stamps
16R509192 and T0602CMJ

Date? E12 76 (5/12/76)

You've got very little left of the original motor, so the original serial number's abit obsolete,...

Your original engine would probably have been a 260 GM 350 V-8 1978-1982 serial nummber between 4908850 to 6218461. Depending on what your wanting to build and end up with I suggest going to Mercruiser Schematic Part Diagrams and determine which one you want to build.

Your original engine would probably have been a 260 GM 350 V-8 1978-1982 serial nummber between 4908850 to 6218461. Depending on what your wanting to build and end up with I suggest going to Mercruiser Schematic Part Diagrams and determine which one you want to build.

The motor is all built, installed in the boat, and run for about 1/2 hour on a garden hose. Interior gets put back in today, in the water tomorrow.... I hope.
