I have a 71 Johnson 50hp motor and someone cut off the ignition switch so I have wires hanging and don't know what is what. Does anyone happen to have a wiring diagram so I can wire up my switch?
That diagram didn't help but thank you. I can post a picture soon but its in the dash. Wiring comes off the motor to the plug, out the other end of the plug to the ignition. Only someone cut the wires at the ignition so they could keep their switch so I don't know what wires are what. As of now I have the Battery which is red and the purple which I think is for the choke. I can't seem to find the ignition wire and not sure what all the other wires are for.
Hopefully you have a switch with two "M" terminals, one of which is a raised tower like "M".
M - Raised tower type: Black/Yellow (Pack Kill Circuit)
M - Regular Type: Black (Ground)
C - Choke: Purple/White (To Choke Solenoid)
A - Accessory: Purple (Anything that needs 12v when key is ON)
S - Solenoid: White (To starter solenoid 3/8" nut)
B - Battery: (12v supply from battery)
I explained what color wires went where (to what component), and the wires leading from the engine are those colors. However, your wires may be different in color. Perhaps this diagram may help. If you now have the push in key type to operate the choke, run the choke wire direct to a "C" terminal that will be on the ignition switch.
