At least remove the cam and lifter galley plugs and blow them out. I've found complete blockages in them...and the oil galleys just ain't always bored straight. Sometimes you will find they had to re-bore from the other end and it shows as a zig-zag in the bore.

are you raw or fresh water cooled? raw water cooling requires a marine spec head gasket, fresh water cooled ( antifreeze ) you can use any head head gasket.

It is a shame that after having it that far down that you didn't go for the hot tanking, cam bearings and new mains. It's cheap insurance. JMO

The WD40 will work fine for that - I spray it down and then use the air hose to blow it around good to coat everything. Good for temporary storage.

no,moly are not just for race motors, they are used in race motors because they require minimal break in.most new motors come with moly rings. why? because you cant depend on all people to follow the extended break in required with plain cast rings. go with the moly and go boating instead of breaking in:)

As I remember, the top ring in a moly set is a ductile ring with a moly facing. The second ring is cast but if it's 1/16", it's probably ductile ring, too. A lot depends on your piston ring grooves

There is also a different honing process for the different type rings sets grit wise.
