Re: I need some help with Terry Bass Boat history..please?

Thanks for the link scrawnyronny. Just got myself an '81 4.7 (15 1/2') Eagle I. Haven't had it on the water yet. Pretty excited to do so. It has a 90 Evinrude. Not sure how the motor will respond. Hoping it's hauler. Do you have any larger images of your boat? (The b/w boat profile photo) Love to see some.

Re: I need some help with Terry Bass Boat history..please?

As a new member to this forum group and new to being a boat owner, I want to say a big thank you for all of you and your info. My wife wanted us to get a small bass boat and being as most, short on funds for a luxury item, we came across a 1977 15' Terry with a Evinrude 35 hp. Owner said it needs a bit of work (motor wouldnt stay in drive), but the wife and I were excited at the $300.00 price (including the trailer). I pulled the motor and had it in the water that same weekend with a trolling motor for a bit of fishing. After our intial launching I've started working and having just enough knowledge about most things I knew I needed to start by finding more info, which brought me here. Still not sure which model we have, no capacity plate found on transom but glad to hear of bigger motors being on other Terry's of the same length. BTW to JC, all the info has my father in-law thinking I'm not such a dumb "A", Thanks again, I'll continue to check for more info.

Re: I need some help with Terry Bass Boat history..please?

I just picked up my first 1979 14" Terry bass boat on CL for $800. After a little tinkering and a test drive, I can tell you this boat is worth 3 times that!
I have owned close to 20 boats and three of those had this same Mercury 850 85 hp engine. This is by far the FASTEST ever! I would REALLY like to know what it costed new in 79. If I never told you it was a 79 and I asked you how old you thought it was, you would swear it was a newer boat! It is SOOOO hard to find this year of boat in such great shape! The detail that went into these boats is unheard of now a days. These boats were made to last!!!!! I have enjoyed reading all the comments. I am hoping people will start posting pics...... I will try to take some more after I get her cleaned up.
I really do love the hinges....... They shine like new. There are a couple soft spots in my floor. So when I put the new marine plywood in, I will get pics posted of the interior hull.
I have only had mine out once since I rewired the engine. (if you are having problems with your older engine, odds are its in the motor harness, where your boat harness plugs into the engine(mercury). I have had to rewire all 3 mercurys that I have owned. The wires just get old and brittle and they stop transfering current. I am looking forward to new posts here...

Re: I need some help with Terry Bass Boat history..please?

I just happened to run across this website and this thread while trying to find some info on Terry bass boats.......I've been looking at a boat thats for sale online and from the pics posted it appears to be in rough shape but for the money they are asking I might be able to clean it up and make it look like something nice again with some new carpet and paint possibly, but I was curious about the boat itself so i'm hoping someone here could help.

The boat in question say's "Terry 450cm" on the side.....thats all I know....no idea of the year it was made or its length.....if I was guessing i'd say the 450cm is probably its length which converts to something just shy of 15ft...does that sounds about right?....Any ideas on motor size ratings or anything else regarding this model that I might find helpful before I take on a project like this?

Thanks in advance.
I just got a 78 Terry 450cm for my 17 yr. old son to use. My uncle bought the boat brand new in 78 and it was equiped with a 50 hp Mercury. I'm not sure of the rating, but a 50hp in pushes the little boat 35 to 40 mph and has plenty of power to get out of the hole. Much more motor than that may be dangerous.

Re: I need some help with Terry Bass Boat history..please?

My First post,, I have just purchased a 1978 5.2 Longhorn, I bought it as a project boat & will post pics soon, I found the Terry on craigslist for 150.00 for the boat & trailer, no motor, I read all the posts & Choctawone you still have the sales skills !!
Can anyone tell me about the Longhorn special edition, this one is # 118, also Im sure I will be asking many questions while trying to restore this Jewel, so thanks in advance to all who can help me.
I also have a 1975 Mackie 15.3 ft with a johnson 85 & it looks very simalar, I wonder if they were one of the companies that Choctawone was saying "splashed" the design?

Great info I have a 1978 5.2 Longhorn Special Edition w/115 Johnson. I have owned it since 1987 and it is like a Timex watch takes a lickin and keeps on tickin. I getting ready to wet sand the hull and to get it back to looking like new. I am glad to hear there are others out there with these boats, Not to many here in TN. I have "tinkered" with mine for many years, I will be glad to help in any way I can. May your line always be tight and your livewell full!!

Buck,, PLEASE !!! post a few pictures I also have a 78 Longhorn & its pretty rough I would love to see what it should look like. I also have a few questions about the switches & panels. Thanks,
Steve

Re: I need some help with Terry Bass Boat history..please?

Howdy... I realize this thread is a couple years old, but today I became the owner of a 1977 ABF 5.2m Cowboy Limited Edition with an Evinrude 115 (I believe the motor that was originally bought with the boat). For a 35-year old boat, it's in right nice shape- just needs a good overall cleanup/polish, some hardware polished or painted, etc. (and the Tennesee Trailer is in desperate need of sanding/painting). On the short demo ride I was surprised at how *solid* the thing feels. Can't help but think I've lucked into a winner here for a right respectable price. Gonna try to post a pic...

Re: I need some help with Terry Bass Boat history..please?

I have just purchased a 14 foot fiberglass boat with trailer for $50.00. I typed in delhi mfg. and ended up here at your website trying to find out more about the boat. It needs some work including seats, and there was no motor, but I want to fix it up and use it. I had no idea what kind of boat it was, but I found it on craigslist and went to look at it and bought it. I have been going over some of the posts about these boats, but want to learn all I can about this boat. This is actually going to be my very first bought I've ever owned. So I would appreciate any and all help with this boat. Thanks...

My name is "JC" and I was a District Sales Manager for Delhi Mfg., makers of Terry Bass Boats from 1975 thru 1980. I'll post one of my old business cards after I figure out how to respond to this format...I just found it.

Judging from some of the questions, I feel I can be of assistance to some of you with questions about Terry Boats or Delhi in general.

I just signed up with this group and haven't filled out the profile form but will tomorrow, I hope. Please forgive me if I screw up trying to answer questions, but as I said, I'm just learning how to operate this PC.

Thanks and bring on the questions!

I just bought a boat and trailer for $50.00 and found out it is a Terry. It is 14 feet long and needs work. Also needs seats and motor. When I looked it up , this site came up and I was reading some of the posts about Terry and Delhi. I would really like to find out more on this boat. This is the first boat I ever owned and I really want to fix it up so I can use it. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: I need some help with Terry Bass Boat history..please?

Hey Hackster, congrats on your purchase !! Its a great boat. I recently (7 months ago) got mine from a neighbor. It had been sitting in his yard for several years without using it. I bugged him so much about it, he GAVE it to me !! All it needed was a battery, steering cable and trim pump (total $500).
I was shocked, when i saw your pic. I have the same exact boat and color !! Mine is a '77 with a 85hp Johnson. Ive been on this website up and down and havent seen one exactly like mine. Yours looks like its in great condition. I have some TLC work to do on mine. The seats and carpet were in bad shape, so I am in the process of replacing. I have to do a little at a time, or I'll end up in the dog house. i will try to send pics, once I figure out how.

Hey Remedy, saw your post. Free is good! Would love to see pics of yours too. Pretty much got mine like I want it, but there's always something else to do, yes? I need to re-glue some carpet sections, replace the livewell pump, replace the trolling motor, etc. etc., but at least I can splash it in, turn the key, and go. Rebuilt the carbs, replaced the impellor, and did a decarb on the motor- it starts by the second crank, gets out of the hole in 5 seconds, and goes way faster than I really need to (especially when the first mate- i.e., wife- is on board...). *Very* solid-feeling hull- almost bone-jarring at times, when the wake-boat boneheads are out in force. Handles great- a hard turn at WOT isn't scary at all.

Here's another pic...In the H20.jpg

Post some pics, and let me know how your project is going. Cheers!
