ok so I have a 1994 75hp 2 stroke Yamaha outboard. I took the boat out yesterday and it was slow to start up once it started it ran fine. and then it just died.and then it would not trun over.i notice the + battery cable was cut so I cut the cable and fixed it once I got home . I charged the battery and still the same thing. when I try to start the motor the volts go to 0 like its shorting it out and I have to take the - battery cable off and back on to get volts again? does anyone know where I should start??? the battery is good it starts my truck just fine..

:welcome: to iboats

Sounds like you have some very bad connections. Check the connections for corrosion, remove them all and use sand paper and wire brushes to get shinny metal.

What do you think cut the cable the first time?

For starters, go buy replacement cables for BOTH the positive AND negative battery cables and replacement those two. Then if any thing else is a problem report back. You're fighting corrosions and it isn't magically going away...

Jumping the starter will do nothing if the cables are bad. Current has to get from the battery to the solenoid, to the ignition switch and to the starter. Bad battery cables prevent that. As was suggested, replace them. Both of them.

ok will do .I also jumped the starter it seemed like it wanted to trun over but still nothing

Agree with Silvertip, and will ask did you jump the start by connecting the cable directly to the starter, or to the old cables?
