Hello,

This forum has always been wonderful and you guys give good, honest advice. I have the opportunity to buy this boat. What are your initial opinions? I plan on using a boat mostly for fishing on Lake Saint Clair. Occasionally the family will want to cruise. Not so much tubing, especially with 55 horses (I would need several teams of clydesdales to pull my fanny around!)

The boat is covered in snow from the last storm. The outside looks good - no spider/stress cracks in the glass and the transom seems solid. Due to snow and time issues I didn't ask to start the motor nor did I hop in and poke around. The trailer seems decent without rust issues. How low would this package have to be priced for you to forgo a detailed inspection?

Assuming functionality in the engine and trailer what would be the separate values of each without the boat?

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

My guesss mabey $500=800 For Motor--------------- Trailer $300 tops. Boat looks good but needs to be dried out and inspected. photo shows a very clean boat . Looks to be about a $1500 package providing it all works good,

IMHO look for an open bow. They are easier to fish from and you can still cruise with the family.

Is that a 16 footer? Pricing, I don't know for a glass boat. Once they get over $500 I'm at a loss.:D

Pluses: Sharp boat, trailer looks decent, nice model of motor with ample parts support, should move pretty well with the 55. Without a better inspection I might go $500-700 on it. I sold my water-ready 16' closed bow aluminum with good running Johnson 85 on it 2 years ago for $2250.

Minuses: Don hit it on the head. I had a 16' closed bow and they really are a big waste of space and not great for fishing. I loved my boat but couldn't wait to trade it for an open bow. Old fiberglass boats have a REAL good chance of being rotted out. Repairable but it's a major job. A 16 or 18 foot aluminum Starcraft SuperSport would really be the ideal boat for you. There have been lots posted in the two CList threads lately.
