very well aware its for this reason i put it in bold letters in my thread to get the safety sheet from the supplier , when diluted how can it cath ignite , water does,nt ignite ,

what pisses a lot of people off , why does the manufacturer not specify the ingriedeients on the lable , like when you buy from super markets & other stores they put the ingriedients on the proudct, when theres money to be made we dont know what goes on behind closed doors , i can say tis & that to make my product no 1 , sorry iam not a money minded person

Ok first"" I'm not making this up, I just read a article in popular science magazine which it states to use 2 packs of unsweetend lemonade koolaid to a half gal 50/50 mixture of water & white vinegar as a good strong aluminum cleaner, states only the lemon flavor will work. the study conducted said the results were superior to many far more costic cleaners available. who knew!

The active ingredient in that one is the lemon juice.citric acid is a very powerful acid though fairly slow working, given enough time it will eat through almost anything.I used back a while to be the production manager in a factory that produced or rather processed lemons for the catering industry and we would be constantly renewing bits of equipment that had been eaten away, especially the aluminum parts.

Re: I need to clean my head but dont know what to do it with.

Commercially available aqueous blends of 5?30% nitric acid and 15?40% phosphoric acid are commonly used for cleaning food and dairy equipment primarily to remove precipitated calcium and magnesium compounds (either deposited from the process stream or resulting from the use of hard water during production and cleaning). The phosphoric acid content helps to passivate ferrous alloys against corrosion by the dilute nitric acid.[SUP][citation needed][/SUP]

Well, just a heads up, I will never use acid again to do what i needed to do. It pitted the crap out of my parts and it was only in it for less than an hour. And I diluted it with water like I was told. Now I need all new water jacket plates. The heads came out ok though even though I only did one.

Maybe so, but it is a big leap from having developed your own expertise in working with some pretty nasty chemicals to getting on an internet forum and advising others to do the same.
The results are as predictable as they were unfortunate and ill-advised.

durban, i enjoy your posts/creativity.....but what you failed to mention is....all food grade equipment ( at least in my neck of the woods) is made from high grade stainless steel which can deal with the corrosive effects of high %age acids/bases. and more importantly, the practice of using strong (40%) acids is not safe unless under controlled conditions, as mixing acids and bases( calcium) can produce some violent chemical reactions.
just my 2cents!

When ever using chemicals its always good to check the MSDS first. In this case muriatic acid reacts with ferrous metals and aluminum metals making hydrogen gas. I know hind sight is 20/20 but its always good to seek out the additional info as you were basically building a bomb trying to clean the motor parts.

Unless you are a true tin-foil hatter/ second-shooter subscriber, you can't honestly believe that a California-(of ALL places)-based company is going to "fudge" it's MSDS information and leave off "Nitric acid".
Which is what "DOES NOT CONTAIN INGREDIENTS CONSIDERED HAZARDOUS per 29CFR.1910-1200" would mean.....if you were correct.
