I decided friday while I had my boat at work where my tools are, to buff the transome area to see how bad the oxidation was, well, the one side is where my transducer cable runs down to the transducer, well I figured I should take the screws out of the little plastic things that are holding the cable to the transom so I can buff under them. This little birdie told me to remove the transducer also. No, I dont need to do that, I can be carefull not to get tangled up in the cable. Well, you guessed it, ripped the cable right out of the transducer. Thats going to cost me!!

Transom polished right up though and looks like new. All I have to do now is go down the sides. And get a new transducer!

Re: I new better!!

You may be right. I remember a long time ago, I was buffing out a laquer paint job and a guy I worked with unpluged the buffer. The buffer I was using just had an on off swith, and when I turned to see what happened he plugged it back in. Well when I turned, the cord was over my shoulder to keep it off the car, and the wheel caught the cord and wrapped it up so fast, that the buffer came within inches of my face. It took me and him about five minutes to unwrap the cord and get it off me.

Just ordered an new transducer, $51.00 on sale shipped.

Lubedude,
Don't feel all alone, I had a piece of power pro braided line around my transducer cable. I went to pull it out and cut the cable right in two. I didn't even pull that hard. Sure suprised me!!

It happened to me Monday evening too....except mine was the speedo tube.....I had to to a patch on the gel next to the drain hole......I had it sanded and ready to buff.....I told myself...."Mike, now there's plenty of room between the tube and where you are working....", only problem was self wasn't listening.....the edge of the buffer took hold of that tube and that thing went crazy like a fire hose with no one holding it.

Luckily, it only broke the plastic where the tube mounts on the pitot, so $10 later, I'm all set up......

Come on people-come clean. You mean to tell me that nobody has had a radiator fan eat a timing light?

Done that one myself-twice.

I didn't listen to the little guy on my shoulder, either, saying: "Hey bonehead-the cord's too close to the pulleys"!

Havenn't killed a timing light... But I've only used one twice in my life so far, so odds are....

Have a small space heater in my garage. It's in my garage because the back has no saftey grill over the fan. Put it in the garage so the boy won't put his fingers in there.

What Do I do?.... go to pick it up to move it over on the work bench... and put my fingers in it. Walk in the house gushing blood, ask the Mrs for a bandaid and to ask no questions.

So it's about 20 degrees below zero and i need to work on my car. I pull the car into the garage and turn on the space heater(natural gas). No time to waste, right, grab the colder than ice tools, drop the tools. Man those things are cold. Set the colder than ice tools down on the top of the space heater. Slide onto floor between space heater and front of car. grab largest open end wrench off the space heater. Now, it takes a little time for it to register in my mind that the feeling i was having in my hand wasn't cold, but, hot, really really really HOT. I've only done that once, and it was enough !!!
The burns healed and left no scars.
That had to be 20 years ago and i remember it like it was yesterday, That's how much it hurt

I dont suppose anybody ever drained and removed the trap under a sink only to pour the bucket into said sink before reinstalling the trap. nope, not me, i dont do that every few years.
That would be dumb.

When I was about 14 or so, my Dad and myself were going to get the mini-motorhome ready for a camping trip. He asked me to go under and drain the oil. Once under there I asked where the drain plug was, I found one and undid it, then asked why the oil was pink. That's when I learned where the motor ended and the tranny started. :D

Craig

Who else has ever backed a pickup out of a service bay with the drivers side door open? Luckily it was an old pickup, the door still worked & the boss was more amused than ticked off. And when I did it again the next day, it didn't really do much additional damage; don't think anybody noticed!

Oh man...thanks for the laugh. I'm dieing over here. I am a fairly capable dude, I can build a house myself, I can build a car myself. I can do a lot of stuff with complete competence. So yesterday I was doing a freind of my moms a favor, moving a window AC from one window to another (along with a million other things). The windows are way up from the ground, and instead of collapsing the side curtain to grab the AC around the side, I just clamped my hand on the front of the unit and opened the window. I've never seen anything move that fast before. Like a shot that AC dissappeared and slamed into the ground. The little lady was standing right behind me. Well, guess what? It bent the case a bit, but that's the only damage. I get the AC and bring it in, pull some vegitation off of it (don't know how that got lodged in there) and plugged it in and it worked!. Got it installed in the right window, asked if they had anything else that need throwing out the window and excused myself. Praise Jesus there is a blessing in there.....the endless list of stuff they wanted my to do got real short real fast :D

Re: I new better!!

alittle -

Just read this thread and laughed about the trap under the sink! Did that once at the cabin while the wife watched and LHAO.... Cleaned up the mess and dumped it right back in again!

Years of miss spent youth in gas stations and shops - glad I was able to go to school later or with my history wouldn't still be here. Watched the owner drying bearing one day using the air compressor (spinning it on his index finger). He made me promise I wouldn't do it because it wasn't safe.... Thought that signing sound of the bearings was cool - musta had it spinning at 300 MPH when I felt the thing stating to let go - I then understood why it was dangerous - not bad but took a week or so to get the cuts around my finger to heal - lucky the loose bearings didn't hit me elsewhere... LOL!

One of my old Marine Corps buddies was over one night to 'help me out'. As I was making a critical cut with a saws-all, he un-plugged it.

And, he got a big yuk when it screwed up my cut.

I told him, "You realize that Pay-Back is going to going to require a MED-EVAC".

After that, he won't even hold or work with a pencil if I'm anywhere within sight.

Re: I new better!!

Back when the little woman and myslef first got married I didn't know sic'em. We bought a trailer and a few months later the hot water heater quit working. Her father told me that they were all 110V and that if I was to hook some tage ends of wire to the prongs on my trouble light I could just press them against the wires going into the heater and if I had power it would light up the bulb. I pressed, it lit, blew and flew, the smoke came pouring out and my wife, god bless her, said, do you have power??? In the ensuing years we have bought 6 houses that I have fixed up and we have sold. Never once did i ask the F.I.L. for advice.

Back in my single days I worked second shift in a trucking garage with a fellow who had a 5 foot body and a 6'5" ego. He was drilling holes in a trailer frame and I noticed he had the trigger locked on the 1" chuck drill. I told him - bad idea - and he said he did that all the time. Yup, it stuck and spun his scrawny little butt around in circles until it pulled the plug. Broke his arm. He quit not long after that.

Next door to the place where I work is a mechine shop. The was a guy using the cutting torch (oxy/act) setup and was cutting a piece of metal. He had the hose from the cylinder running right underneath where he is cutting the metal. The spark and molten metal was falling onto the hose. One of the hose was on fire and he did not know. I was walk past him and saw is, I told him what was happening and was greatful as any longer the fire would have burn through the hose.

Had a simuliar exsperience with a 1hp elec.industrial drill while working on my trailer at my brothers shop, being the genius that I am I had the trigger locked and was holding on to the two handles drilling a half inch hole needless to say when that bit "caught" that big a** drill beat me stupid till it finally pulled the cord, glad I wasn't hurt bad(pride and bruises) cause my brother was busy rolling on the floor. I don't lock them triggers any more so I guess some good came out of it.

Re: I new better!!

A couple years back a guy at a local muffler shop was dropping a fuel tank to change the fuel pump. The guy in the next stall was doing exhaust work, with a torch. Yep, the place burned to the ground. I didn't think it was too funny at the time as I had just lost all my tools at work in a fuel spill caused fire(NOT my fault though, it was the bosses son-in-law's OOPS). Some people just shouldn't be allowed to reproduce.
