Loaded question: is there a site that lists what drives will match up with which engines? Will just about any engine match up with any outdrive provided they are of the same rotation orientation?

I have a Yamaha outdrive and am looking to possibly replace the engine, which is a Yamaha. Because of the issues and finding parts, and people, to work on a Yamaha, I was thinking of dropping in a Merc or something, but keep the drive, is possible. Thanks

It's Possible,...... But it'll take Abunch of Creative Engineering.......

I believe your Yamaha uses the Same Chevy base engines as everybody Else.....
It's just everything that's Bolted To it, that's Yamaha.......

Well,......

You've Got to marry it up to the Yamaha, Somewhere,.......
So,.....
Other than a Yamaha Dressed motor,...........

A Complete, Drop-in motor, Ain't gonna Happen.........

Ayuh,..... Just putting Yamaha in the thread's Title is usually enough for Ken to find you.........

Re: I/O Engine to drive match

I sent Ken an email a while back. I sent him a link to a different engine (not a Merc or Volvo) and he mentioned that it should be a problem. My problem is, finding a local mechanic that is willing to work on a Yamaha; it's like they are all scared.
