Just wondering if its normal for a tiny bit of grinding when switching from forward to reverse? Its not that bad but im i new boat owner so wanted to see if its normal. My boats a 1989 larson dc. Also when you shift from forward to reverse do you shift slow or fast if it evens matters. Let me know thanks

From forward to reverse i usually give it a couple seconds for the prop to stop spinning before shifting back into gear.
Use a brisk shift motion....do not ease it into gear because that puts more stress on the gears..
A slight clunk going into gear is normal.

As the other poster mentioned, you really don't want to shift slowly. A nice quick firm shift is by far the easiest on the geartrain.
