I/O Rev limiter problem

I have 1990 commander 22ft cuddy, with a 350 I/O with a Yamaha out drive. I cannot get the boat to go to wide open throttle. I get to about 30mph and it seems as though it hits a rev limiter. I have changed props, new plugs, checked the vacuum secondaries. Nothing fixes it. It only gets to 2500rpm when it cuts out. I was told that it has a rev limiter but no one knows where it is. Is there away to adjust it on this boat. Any help would be great

Re: I/O Rev limiter problem

The 1990 year is kind of old for this, but some systems have a limp-home mode, those kick in if a high temp or low oil pressure or other condition exist. Sometimes a sensor can act up and trip it. This type of protection is usually associated with computer controlled EFI systems so not sure if yours is like this or not. Look thru the manual and see if anything like that or anything about a rev limiter is discussed.

I would put 'Yamaha I/O" in the thread title somewhere, that will get more attention from the people with Yamaha experience and knowledge. Yamahas are not mainstream, but you probably have figured that out by now!

Re: I/O Rev limiter problem

I appreciate the advice. Boat runs great, everything seems to be working perfect. Just wont go over 30 and it has plenty of throttle left. I do believe it is computer controlled. It has 2 coil packs. Not sure what to do.
