How difficult would a transom pod be for this boat? I might be using this hull for my 'chugger' build. But it would need outboard converted. I have a 2001 150 Merc lined up to buy cheap.

The boat is a 2000 Smokercraft Allante 196 and yes the bunks are collapsed

additionally, could I drop in a complete 3.0L, and then find a used leg for it? It's a gen II transom assembly which I have no experience with, or what will interchange The boat has been picked over, and the trim pumps/ rams and a number of things on the engine have been removed. It will need rewired if I do decide to keep it... Complete 3.0's are cheap and 125hp outboard vs 130hp I/O seems same thing to me. I don't care about go fast or slightly under powered.. Not finding a cheap I/O boat right now but looking.

Ayuh,..... With a hull like that, goin' back with what was there, would certainly be much easier,......

The Gen.II will only accept another Gen.II,.....

Does the bobtail motor need to be from a gen 2 ? I figure an SEI 116 could be had reasonable. But a rotted boat would be cheaper even if it was gen 1 or older

Cool, that opens up some possibilities then without buying a donor boat.

Well now I found a good donor boat for $250 but the donor boat is probably nicer than what I have. So I might just end up using just the trailer on this freebie boat. Donor will need fully rebuilt but it will lend itself better to my vision

New 'donor' is coming to me in the next day or 2. guy is delivering it for $30. I can't fire up my old truck for that.

It's a 1972 Snorklecraft with a 120hp Mercruiser. Someone started a deck over, so I may or may not re rebuild it. If the Smokercraft is solid after I core sample it. I think I just better build that boat

Guy responded back that the motor seized over winter. Knowing I could do a little trick with some diesel I still told him I would take it, just for less money. but have not heard back.. Now found a 1971 Starcraft Offshore V 18 with rebuilt transom, floor and gimble bearing. 120hp Mercruiser. Go to look later tonight. So the Snorklecraft would make some good spare parts
