I/O water pump question

has anyone ever removed the water pump from their I/O and just installed an engine driven water pump the same as a straight drive setup. the I/O pump setup is just another point of failure for I/O units.

What you are describing is the way a Bravo drive works. The water pump is driven off an engine fan belt.

The water flow aids in cooling the outdrive oil

The water will follow the same flow path through the outdrive no matter where the pump is located.
