Here ya go:

Another note:

As the spring progresses, many southern boat owners are going to be finding cracked blocks left and right. This might be a year for the record books... because there were deeper/longer freezes down south than ever before. On an older boat, but one with a decent engine nonetheless, many are going to try to part with it. Some will fess up and tell you.

It might be good to keep that in mind. A cracked block might make an owner run for any $ they can get, but that means a bunch of goodies for you.

I have a mildly worked over low hour 5.7 complete less motor mounts, alt, ps pump, crank pulley and accy brackets in my garage that I yanked out of our Baja when we dropped in the 385 stroker. Considered a couple theft recoveries like you have purchased as a new home for it. Our engine is complete front to back except the items I noted. (AND NO IT IS NOT FOR SALE IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM - don't anyone ask) All the recoveries were missing about the same items - complete engine, outdrive, and cut wires everywhere.

The problem is (as has been pointed out) is the engine is really the least expensive part of doing this.

On your boat by the time you buy motor mounts, alternator, power steering pump, power steering lines, brackets for accessories, engine wiring harness, crank pulley, power steering cooler, oil cooler, flame arrestor, fuel pump, shift assembly, manifolds, risers, control cables (probably cut), coupler, starter, belts, sea water pump, outdrive, and whatever else is missing, plus fix what the thieves screwed up is you are into it way more than you could buy a similar boat ready to run.

For me, even with our engine and the few things we need it doesn't pencil out to for us even consider anything other than a boat that is complete with a bad engine and missing a drive.

Unless you find a donor boat that has virtually everything you need for a steal it's never going to work out financially.

If you have a ton of connections in the boating world, know all the ins/outs, you might be able to pull of a rebirth at decent cost.

Hulls are nothing. It's a hull. The engine, drive and parts are where the money is at.

Was trying to help by finding an engine and outdrive, but I can't even get my brain around all the bits and pieces it takes to make a boat complete.

When you find what you want, you realize that it might have been easier to spend more upfront.
