Wait now before you lynch me......

I'm from the Great White North in Canada. A few weeks back I finished the final touches on my winterization (UUGH!) of my boat until next April/May.

Last week, I took a vacation with my family to Disney/Orlando. As I was flying in, all I could see was beautiful coastline, inland lakes, and yup... you guessed it.... one helluva pile of boats.

Every chance I got, I took a water taxi between locations at Disney just to feel the roll of the water under the hull.

I flew back on Nov 1st, only to find out the temperature is floating in the 30-40s and they had snow up here on Oct 30th (2+ inches):eek: and my neighbors kids have built snowmen.. While its all melted and the grass is green (along with my Florida envy) its a stark reminder of whats to come.

So...while I've chatted with a bunch of folks on here over the years from down in Florida, I've now experienced it first hand what you have to put up with......

and I really don't like Florida :(

I can do one worse then that. spent most of my life in Wis wishing to live in Florida. Finally got down there and set up camp, lived there for 13 months and then whammo the better half says we should move back to Wis for the schools for the kids.
yeah Having tasted it for a while makes you want to be there even worse.

my dad calling now and then to give me the weather forcast doesn't help either. LOL

I feel your pain. although at least we haven't had 2 inches of snow already.

I would love to spend winters in South Florida. Down around Sarasota. We have stayed there for a week at a time. The problem with living there is the cost of Home owners Insurance. Then there is the fear factor. All it takes in that Major Hurricane Andrew type storm to blow you back to Wisconsin. I think Florida got hit by 4 Hurricanes in one year awhile back. This has sent many Floridians moving out of Florida to GA and SC. Floridians are moving up here in droves. Still a great place to get away from winter.

I love Florida for a couple of weeks at a time, I rent, would never buy there. The only draw for me is that I can fish most days, the wife can sun bath and we hit the TiKi Bars in the evening for an hour or two. I'm not tied down to one place, I could spend a couple of weeks in Marathon and a month or two later I could be enjoying fishing the west coast. Give back the key and do not need to worry about any hurricanes damaging property, nor paying a special assessment to the Condo on top of the monthly fee.

actually i lived there when hurricane andrew went through. Tampa had a nice day.

i lived in NC when they had a 'cane go through as well. forgot the name of that one.

I've lived in wisconsin for a ton of tornados. watched my neighbors place blow away when I was a kid, lost the roof of our house another year, had a tree get dropped just feet from us in a tornado up north.
the difference between a hurricane and a tornadoe is the diam of the hurricane and the fact it starts over water. otherwise tornados can be just as bad and sometimes hit more often.
I have thought about NC or Ga though. would be nice to be close to the old guy though for awhile.

It was 90 here yesterday, 90 today, 85 tomorrow. No humidity. Plus we have Mountains, with snow, 45 minutes from Downtown LA. Ocean 30 minutes in two directions, the desert an hour away and the Colorado River and lakes 4 hours away. Plus we have our own little Orlando Monstrosity, we call it Beach Blvd. Buena Park + Disneyland.

Oh, oh . . . we have earthquakes and it's wildfire season . . . and we have a brand new old Governor.

Edit: Sorry, was feeling Left out . . .

I mentioned SC. NC has longer winters and more snow than we do. Especially in the Western Mountain ranges. They also have cooler summers. You want long, hot, sunny summers then you want SC. We are already forecasted to get low 30s by the end of this week. So winterizing is important from November to April 10. So that is a bummer.

where is that smiley with the shaking fist? LOL
yesterday morning was 30 here.

I see you had a heatwave. Last few nites have been in the teens except for this morning. Only got down to 20. Low 50's the last couple days for hi's. Now that's a heatwave.

I envy the snowbirds. They get the best of both worlds. Gorgeous northern summers(most of the time) and nice, warm southern winters.......

We had some snow here too and being a snowmobiler and love ice fishing, I hate it. It would not hurt my feelings if I didn't see another snow flake...ever. My wife and I are planning a trip to Florida next year. I can't wait. Maybe I'll become an illegal immigrant..lol..Kidding. But I am looking forward to the warm temps and the boats. Maybe I'll run into some of my iboat friends.

Boeing just started a Billion$ operation in Charleston. BMW has Billion+ operation in Greer. Michelin tire is in Sandy Springs. Greenville has a very diverse and healthy job Market--a great place to live. High unemployment in the smaller cities right now. Southwest airlines is starting up in Greenville in March. Upstate SC is loaded with restaurants. I like the way Greenville is pedestrian friendly downtown. Lots of bars and restaurants you can walk to with a river to sit by
If I had to pick a place in NC it would be Asheville. Beautiful progressive city in the Mountains.
Atlanta is too crazy for me. Nice place to visit but I wouldn't live there. Too much traffic and crime. Plenty to do. Every second is rush hour. They have Lake Lanier. I like GA small towns but the jobs are in Atlanta

Top Ten worst things about living in Florida

Top Ten worst things about living in Florida

The Top Ten worst things about living in Florida;

10) - Forgetting there are 4 seasons, even if the calendar says there are

9) - There are no hills in the road, and we go 4-wheeling

8) - There are no S-curves, and yet we drive sports cars

7) - Coordinating your clothing to your suntan

6) - The Bikinis.... 'nuff said

5) - You can't wear Flip-flops to black tie affairs, unless you're wearing black shorts

4) - Snowbirds on the road

3) - Sand, sand everywhere - the state is a big sandbar

2) - The fish just won't stop biting

.....and the #1 worst thing about living in Florida....

1) - you forget how to winterize a boat

Re: I really don't like Florida...:(

Spent the holiday season in Fla. with my parents one year and just didn't get that warm fuzzy feeling of being snowed in up to out butts, snuggled up around the fireplace sipping rum/eggnoggs.
Winds and sub zero temps with some blowing while driving to work makes it look like another planet .

Out 4 wheeling and snatching a car or two from the medium just for kicks.

Ice fishing in my shanty.

my friend you would not have to try very hard to convince me of SC awesomeness. I am surprised to hear about those industries (I will be checking for openings today)

I totally agree about Asheville and Atlanta.

thanks again for the tips about SC
