Re: I REALLY need some advice.

Well this little story has taken an interesting turn. We knew that caling the police was going to do very little because as many of you mentioned SHE needs to file it, and we didnt have any of this guys info (name etc) so we were "sol" no matter what we did until we had that. We really just wanted to call because we wanted to get some paperwork started and so that they knew what was going on. The plan was, since he was waiting outside for her, we coud get him for loitering.

Now previously I mentioned that this girl didnt know this man at all. Why? Because this is what she originaly told us. When she learned how serious we were about getting police involved she finally began to tell us a little more (and why it now makes sense why she didnt want police invovled in the first place.....at east in her mind). Apparenty this guy is her x-boyfriend, who she just so happens to have a kid with. She is afraid of osing child support/custody if she gets the poice involved.

Now the really bizarre thing is that she had vocalized to all of us that she was "afraid of being assulted" by this guy.

This pretty much puts the situation on her end. We are still trying to convince her to take legal action if she really does feel unsafe, but so far she hasnt. At least I feel safer about the other women employees...........for now.

Pony, I think there is a piece of the puzzle not being shared.

Very unusual that someone is stalked by a complete stranger. They usually have some connection to the victim.

You are forgetting (perhaps) the danger this clown poses to ALL your employees. Now that you have his name and such, involve the police and someone (preferrably several) need to approach him and tell him he is not welcome in your store or anywhere on your property. She may be a very nice person and good employee, but lying about the situation has put your organization at risk. Her future with the company should be evaluated

Yep, none of this new information changes anything about BB's exposure should something happen with him. Not to mention you (BB) could be implicated in fostering a hostile work environment. If she were my employee, I would let her go...immediately...you're running a business FCOL not a daytime TV show...

Why do young girls have so much time for all this drama?

After the phone call I just had, I have now "re-relized" the possible dangers.

A different ex-boyfriend of hers works in home theatre, and they too have kids together. I don't even want to think about what could happen if those three get together. We still havent gotten his ID's, but as soon as we do I don't want him near the store. (always pays in cash, never more than $10) For the time being the girl in question has taken some time off of work to visit with family. I don't think she will be employed much longer anyways. We are over staffed in her department anyways, and with the current situation I don't see a need for her to be there.

Pony, I am so not surprised by this new information...

You can always turn it on her, telling her that by not taking any actions she is allowing problems to be caused in the work place, which would be cause for disciplinary action. This depends on how nice you are, but your responsibility as a manager is to the company and your other employees as well as her. It is her responsibility to keep control of her problems, not yours. She can't complain to you about him and then turn around and not want to do anything about it.

Make sure you don't get sucked in to a young drama queen situation, it happens way too much...

And it sounds as though you are playing Jerry Springer. ;) Have you discussed this with your Supervisor? (if you have, I missed what he suggested)
