I have been to the marina 2 times now and ZI keep getting the parts guy to give me 2 different spark plugs in the last year for my mercruiser. I have a 1996 mercruiser 4.3 LX Gen + with the serial number 0F821387. Last year he gave me a set of NGKBPR6EFS and I gapped them at .040. This time around he gave me the "short" shaft NGKBR6FS and I gapped them at .045. I expalined and showed the previous ones to him "regular" shaft and then he gave me the "short" shaft and said they were better! Can I run the "short" shaft NGKBPR6EFS in the motor without harming it or should I pull them again and get??? There are 2 marinas in my area and unless they do the "work" they seem untrusting as if you are taking money out of there hand when looking up your parts request in the "book!"

You need the BPR6EFS plugs. No, don't run the short plugs. the plug will be firing INSIDE the threaded hole for the longer plugs.
If you want to buy parts from them, go in with the part number and don't ask them, better yet, find a place that wants your business.

Is there an alternative plug that you would use? I ran into this on the 1st time when I went to AutoZone and had them cross-reference him (had doubts to begin with). The only problem is that AutoZone did not stock ANY plugs that coincided with the NGK 3623 plugs.
