I would tare it all apart and start from the begining. Do you have all the proper tools to do this job?

I do have all of the tools, I quit, I am signing off ! There was nothing wrong with it before I started, I just replaced the bearing and seals in the upper housing. Just too difficult to perform these types of measurements with any accuracy. Looks like I would be chasing my tail trying to perform one measurement, causing changes to another which would require more changes again! Besides, I could not find a gear slide hammer, puller that would even fit inside of the upper bearing race.
I have the yoke bearings measured right and it turns freely.
Thank you all for your support, might as well put all these tools on eBay!
I got the bellows replaced and the gimbal bearing is lined up. Ready to put the out drive on and give her test ride, after getting the carburetor working right!

I will merge this thread with the previous. If you have not removed the lower bearing, no requirement to check the height. We can assume it is right. As for the required shim thickness to change the pre-load.... trial and error, sorry.
