hi,i started my johnson 90 hp v4
i cant seam to be able to get it to idles at the right speed alson theres is lots of white smoke cumming out the exaulste
also the lower unit oil is white is that normal

White smoke from the exhaust is most likely burnt 2 stroke oil.
Lower unit needs to be looked at. Post a photo of it.

thanks unfortunatly i cant post pics im on dial up but the oil is like a foamy gray white color what color is lower unit oil anyway,
thats what i figured for the smoke
my steerring cable is jammed up is there a way to unjame or do i need to change it

If the lower unit oil is like a milk shake then you have water intrusion. Did you drain and re-fill the lower unit ?? did you start it in the driveway ?? did you use muffs and a hose ??

no i did not drain it yet and yes i used a flush kit is it possible that water contaminaded the lower unit because its been park for 3 years

If you checked the lower unit before running, you would have found the oil separated and the water draining from the bottom. When agitated, the oil will take on a creamy appearance if there is water in it.

The usual source of the water is through the fill and vent screws because new seals were not used when the gearcase was serviced.

If you take the gearcase to a service department, they can pressure and vacuum test it to see if it needs to be re-sealed.

In the meantime, refresh the gear oil frequently until you know for sure what the problem is.

hey thanks thats great advice,
my other problem is with my steering system i got it unjamed from the back but now it seams like the cable is to short when i turn to the left any idea on how i can adjust this
