There should be two solenoids. Which one did you replace? If I understand correctly, it was on the starter. Look over the test procedure if you find there is nothing giving you grief in the engine or drive. I would do the electrical first unless you have experienced what silvertip is stating.

I replaced the solenoid on the starter itself...where is there a second solenoid?

Send us some pictures of the starter, and the wiring connections to it if you can.
On a boat of that vintage there's got to be a remote solenoid which provides power to the on-starter solenoid.
What engine size & brand is in it? There are people on this board who will likely be able to tell you where to look and what to look for.
Also you can jump power to the on-starter solenoid to see if it powers & turns the starter & thereby the flywheel.
And you may be on to something with your starter alignment question, if it had shims before you took it out they need to be there when you put it back. Is it possible any got lost while you had the starter drive off?

The boat is in the shop at the moment....they checked and the motor in NOT seized. Hoooooo WHooooo! The problem is the started is not shimmed correctly so the flywheel and starter gear are binding. So he is going to fix that and go through the water system to make sure all is well.

But I would like to know about this second solenoid...sounds like something that I should replace just for general maintenance on this old boat...I will ask the mechanic about this second solenoid...if he sees no problem the I will send pics to you guys can point it out to me so I can replace it anyway....

Re: I THINK I FINALLY KILLED IT!!!!!! Engine Seized????

Got the boat out of the shop...the problem was that the starter was not shimmed correctly. They corrected that issue and checked the outdrive and water system out.

Everything looked good, water moving like it should (small leak coming out of thermostat housing), engine ran at good temp.

We took it out to the bay and ran it all day...ran great. Even got stabbed by a catfish..no flesh eating bacteria so far (whew!) On the way back, the belt on the water circulation pump came apart. There was a small drip of water coming from the thermostat housing that kept dripping on the belt and caused it to keep slipping. I imagine the belt got hot a snapped. Putted home relying only on the impeller to push water through. Did just fine a low low speed.

Only thing I noticed is that the boat does not reach WOT. I tried a couple of times and it began to backfire. I got it up to about 15 knots but it usually runs about 20-25 knots. What could be causing this? Maybe just some simple adjustments to the carb and throttle cable? Something else?

I already looked through the sticky about WOT problems..none of them sound like my problem.

Any suggestions?

Had the same set of circumstances happen to me. Turns out it was a split water hose on the bell housing of the outdrive. Not sure if the heat caused it, but I split my crankshaft at the number 1 cylinder. Never seen anything like that.

I don't believe heat could cause that to happen? Anybody know differently?
