I think I found the problem; now I need some help?

OK, I am guilty of running a 1970 Evinrude Dolphin 210 (Old OMC tri-hull) accross a lake at near-full throttle with the trim about 3/4 of the way up. As a result, the teeth on both the gear at the end of the drive shaft (protruding from the back of the transom delivering power to the outdrive) and the receiving teeth on the outdrive gear have been sverely sheered, to the point that they will no longer mesh together and deliver power to the propeller (in either forward or reverse). Does anybody know what these 2 gears are called, and how to order/remove/replace them?

Thanks! Does the kit include both sets of gears?

If yours is like my mercruiser... if the engine isn't spinning the input shaft on the outdrive... then you aren't getting water into the engine, just FYI!

Laddies already answered.

Don't just buy the gears... buy seals and all. be very careful separating both bearing housings and you may be able to salvage the shims. If you fudge them up, order a shim kit too. You can use a micrometer to on the old shims to figure out what to replace them with.

Have fun, this job is a hoot getting them old gears off!

Good warning "AT My Expense"; thanks. Here's a question: I am to find what model number my engine is and have had zero luck finding it imprinted anywhere on the engine or the exposed outdrive. Where the heck does it appear on the engine itself (1970 OMC I/O)?
