i think i got ripped by repair shop

Hey guys thanks for looking .. I have a 95 125hp outboard and just rebuild powerhead . They switched the engine for a New rebuild .1. Motor is a little different that i noticed the flywheel cover don't screw up like the old . now the carbs are my old ones .. Now the boat is not as fast as it was .. Where in engine will i find something to point towards horsepower and year . There's the old motor serial but where would i find on powerhead .. Thanks guys

Ayuh,...As noted, there oughta be the serial number stamped into a welch plug...

Otherwise, post some Pictures of yer concerns,...

hey i found it, kinda under the lower cowling and the numbers i got off it was C246333

Thats a 1990 vintage 115 ELPTO Mariner block at least. They probably reused your external components. There may be a difference with the port configuration. Substitutions for whatever is externally the same is common when swapping powerheads. Everybody does it. Nobody likes it. Most people wont notice 10 HP but it is a 8% difference.

oh ok .. i noticed when the boat now goes 29 instead of 40mph .. it does run good.. i also noticed that the scews on the exhaust port o think there are about 15 screws. on the starburst side water is dripping out of some of them.. i tried to tighten, they where loose and one was not even doing anything just sitting. is there anything like silicone or something i can use .. thanks for reply

Maybe after motor gets broken in good it'll make more horsepower....those rings and cylinders need to wear in...

I would take it to the shop and have them take care of it. 29 mph from 40 is a HUGE difference. They should make it right.

There is a big difference in them motors as the 1991 is a small bore 105 ci motor and the 1995 is is a big bore 113 ci motor. If they used your existing part the carbs jetting is likely to rich of the small bore block

oh ok . but the motor was redone . would the bore be a little bigger

Yes but even .030 over wouldn't be noticible. FYI, I'd be mad. Tell them you want a 95 or better powerhead replacement.

You'll find that many "rebuilds" of 2 stroke motors are just re ring jobs and in a lot of instances they don't even change some of the bearings. In any case even if they bored all the cylinders .030" its would still only equal 1 or 2 cubic inches more.

hey guy thanks for all the input.. i took the powerhead to the rebuilder , witch i never met bc i went through another boat guy to fix my boat but since i said i need my boat back fast he sent me to source.... the name of the place is ranch marine in deland fl.. witch is 1 1//2 hour each way .. i know i have patience . to me **** happens, and i can relate.. so i think that may be why my top has not blown..well he took the cap off and expose the internals. first he said that the bearings that hold the piston and rod together that one was missing .i know im no boat expert but i get my hands in cars. and to me there was more the one missing. now i would think that it should be filled all away around, anyway today he call and says that a gap is suppose to be like that with some missing . well im thinking they giving me the bull. now do i think they know what they doing there i would say yes they where working on customers rebuilds and had lots of powerheads ,titlts complete engines etc .. but since i saw the inside of the engine im like darn this look very simple.. anyway they going to fix the powerhead and im hoping i get it back by friday if not then my top will blow . i have plans this weekend and it would not be cool if they get ruined, but i saw a complete engine for sale 115 mercury with tilt wiring carbs etc..but the guy says it has a knck but he can start it .. well since i am kinda getting familiar with this engine i would like to attempt to rebuild it myself.. the serial number on the suppose to be a 95 mercury 115 is 0D299053
what should i look for im thinking
1. compression
2. holes on block
what do you guys think

if crank is bad can it be fixed or get new one..
it has a knock somewhere
