I took a friend and his kids out a couple of weeks ago for a day of boating, tubing, and skiing. They all seemed to have a good time, as the kids had never been in a boat before. Long story short, he is now looking for a boat of his own to go out in. They indicated that it was the most fun that they had in a long time. (now he just has to convince his wife)

LoLoL.. Dad's got a great argument and the kids on his side. Good luck to him trying to convince the wife. Can't beat the hours of family fun, bonding and happiness a boat can bring. Hopefully the wife does't get sea sick :O

I agree a boat is great for family time. I just purchased one and we have been out every weekend. Before we just sat around the house in different rooms and watched TV.

We took out a family this weekend and they went home and started looking at jetskis.

Re: I think I may have converted a new boater

I bought my boat when I was single. My latest girlfriend at the time hated the outdoors especially fishing and boating (It may be because I obsessed about it). I thought to myself, I can't spend my life with someone who doesn't like boating and fishing. I gotta be proactive! so I went out and bought a boat on the spot. My reasoning was:

1) It's a good time to invest as I don't have a girlfriend or wife sucking up my cash like a vacuum cleaner.

2) I'd already have a boat when I met someone so:

a) She'd know I liked boats up front. Several things would happen next: She would also like boats, she would learn to like them, she would have to accept that one of my life passions is boating and fishing and that I will be away from her doing just that during most of my free time, she would GTFO.

b) I wouldn't have to convince/beg her to spend alot of $$ on one if we ever got married. You gotta go out a bunch of times to reeeeeeally appreciate boating, so it could be a tough sell unless the wife is familiar with boats in advance. Not a chance I was willing to take.

I had a plan! It worked better than I could have imagined. My wife had a little boating experience but was real psyched I had a boat. My parents tried to convince me to sell it for her ring and she agreed that I shouldn't . She loves boating as much as I do. She eagerly agreed to invest into a new motor and steering system which the boat needed badly. She learned to fish, and she likes that as much as I do also. We boat every spare second we get. I have a 3 year old who is in training to become a fine fisherman and 1st mate. He was semi casting and helping with the anchor line this weekend. Wifey is 8 mos pregnant with # 2 on the way. She will be happy to have a 2nd mate so she can just relax.

Thanks for the memories geeco1.
