I think my engine block is is pretty good shape despite my transgressions. As I stated above, I'm certain I need to take it to a machine shop to get a new dowel and get the hole realigned. However, the block I have appears to be in far better shape than anything I have seen online... as far as I can tell, the block is pristine aside from what I may have done in removing the dowel. Given that I knew ZERO about engines prior to this endeavor, I was always planning on taking this to a machine shop once disassembled. I would suspect that the marginal cost of fixing this dowel would not be significant if I was already planning taking it in anyway.
If I am off base here, please let me know.
FYI, I suspect his motor has less than 100hrs on it (just an estimate... certainly it has less than 25hrs during my lifetime which is 28years)
