It may not seem like a big deal to most of you guys who have been doing it for years but for me it was empowering.

I've piloted our boat for a few years now but never completely alone with no one else onboard. I made 6-7 docking practices to be sure I could manuver a 22' CC into a very narrow 25' area between two boat slips/docks without supervision. I managed it without error.

My entire trip was only about 5-6 miles, maybe a little more. I took off and headed for a familiar fishing spot of ours. Even though I can get there by line of sight, I wanted to use the GPS and be able to go directly to my mark. Its taken me awhile to get used to using it because for 10 years we didn't have one. Its really important in case I am ever in adverse conditions to be able to pilot the boat 'blind'.

I loved all the thumbs up, waves and looks from other boaters and people sitting on their docks. :)

I even remembered to put the attenae down before putting her in the slip. :)

The trip was great, without incident, and I'm pretty dang proud of myself. :D

Over and Out, Cap'n Connie. :p

LD, thats fairly easy for me. Although we keep our boat in tip top shape mechanically, I realize that doo doo happens.

Unless it was something I could easily figure out, I would not attempt to resolve mechanical problems.

I would first anchor up, mark the GPS of my location, then call Mr. LF. If he didn't know the answer, I would then call our mechanic and see if it would be anything he could walk me through.

If I needed a tow, we have lots of friends who also have boats and 'owe' us from towing them in. In fact, one is so appreciative he said if we ever needed a tow he would drive down from Houston.

I always make sure to have plenty of water and snacks onboard, we have a duel battery system and a battery pack, a hand held seal beam light, VHF radio, I make sure I have a fully charged cell phone and foul weather gear.

My boating experiece has taught me that trying to repair things yourself when you don't really know the problem can make matters worse than they are. So for me, it'd be best to anchor up and call someone.

If its ever a MayDay situation, I would mark the GPS and call the coast guard. I would then attempt to anchor up and get a floatation device. I realize that there isn't always time for all that but the first two are critical to someone finding you.

Poor Mr LF, he may never see his/their boat or his wife again. She will be enjoying her unemployment, get on fish, and forget to come home for supper, leaving Mr LF to cry in his beer, wishing his boat would return! ;) :)

Congrats Capt. Connie!
