Re: I wanna be rich

I towed a '06 Mastercraft into the marina with my '72 15' tri-hull. It's one thing to get towed in, but it's another to have the "grandpa" boat tow ya' in.

Plus I think about those payments ... yeeeesh.

After MDW, I noticed a TON of people getting towed back, I think they played their stereo's too much and killed the battery?

Our 14year old boat has it's share of little issues, 2 owners prior to me havent helped. Just last night we were drifting and I go to turn the key and ..... NOTHING:rolleyes: I kept my cool, quickly dropped anchor, assessed the situation, and realized my battery connections were looking corroded. Scraped them enough to get it started and motored back. I'm just glad I have the skills and knowledge to take on the every day issues. I cleaned it up good at the dock and am fixing the problem so it doesnt happen again.

Many brand new boats have some very big issues! I vote for a 3 year old boat in good condition any day.

The problems with new owners of old boats 99% of the time you are buying there problem. I like to buy new and maintain for long periods of time then you can have a good old boat. Hopefully when times are good you can buy new and coast through the bad times thats what I am trying to do right now is coast. Now all I have to do is worry about the gas prices.

I wanna have TIME! Have the boat with a motor that is working, a full tank of gas, batteries charged, all set to go ... now just need the time.... Work to have money so you can do, but then you don't have the time to do ... a catch 22 if there ever was one.

We all want worry free boating, however it is a boat! Carefully maintain it at your pace and eventually you will have an ageless classic that will perform. Plus the knowledge and experience that I have gained through tough situations is priceless. Last week on my vacation I decided to tear apart the carbs on my outboard. Paid for someone else to do it a few years back on a different boat / motor and the sense of accomplishment after I did it myself was awesome.

Go at your pace and understand no matter how frustrating it can be... you own a boat :) What can most others say for themselves? - "I wish I owned a boat"

As my boss always said, you only work 1/2 a day. What you do with the other 12 hours of the days is totally up to you.

This was kind of an old thread but I thought I'd give an update. Finally got the finances together to fix my motor (did it myself) and she is running great (knock on wood). Only problem remaining is a weird prop issue that has me compleatly baffeld and that's in another thread in the prop section if you care to take a stab at it. Hehe, my son finally getting a job turned the tide enough so I could get all the parts I needed:)
