Depends-- do you own the canal or ICW front lot? I looked into a boat house with lift- like that with a garage door. Had to have a floating dock due to tide changes. Found it less expensive to buy an indoor dry slip at the marina 1 1/2 miles from home. Much more convenient too. If you don't own the lot, no way.
Type in "Boat lifts" or "boat hoists" into your favorite search engine, that should keep you busy for some time. Different models, options, prices all over the map.
I see those lifts everywhere around where live, actual boat/fish. I wonder what happens when the straps deteriorate from the constant exposure to the weather and UV exposure to the sun over time while loaded...
seen way more of the float lifts but their purpose is to get the boat out of the water so you don't get growth vs getting it out of the water if its unprotected water.
You can hire a garage builder to build a garage, or a GC to build an addition on the house. But, marine construction would usually require a marine contractor, because the other guys wouldn't want the job.
In my neck of the woods, it's a $30k job if you owned the land.
Up north here,if you have a boathouse it's ok to keep it fixed up. If ya want to build a new one, ya can't. Check your building codes first. If I could find one that exists on my small 350 acre lake that nobody wanted, I could move it to me property,but I can't build a new one. Codes are a pain in the a@@.

Now that I thought for a few seconds,there are a few boat lifts on the lake where I'm at. If I was to put a roof cover on it it would be ok,2 do already. So over time,possibly put up windbreak canvass sides on it for the winter......and who konows what else could be accomplished over a few years. Hech we have 2dock's and only one is allowed......
You're so correct codes and permits are a pain on Waterfront Property. Want to build large deck off front of house. Have to have engineer certify so insurance will cover. Which on the other hand is a good thing b/c they don't want flying debris. But it's all good City Hall is just around the corner for permits.
