I've been looking at a few boats. I had a 15 foot bayliner capri with a johnson 50hp and i sold it. I enjoyed it but it was definitely too small for the waves we get on Oneida Lake. It had the open bow but it was so small the whole boat was just cramped , no storage.

I recently looked at an 1989 18 foot Citation open bow with a 2.3 liter ford and an OMC outdrive and everyone is telling me to run away from it. One thing is it only has the half cockpit cover so its probably been out in the weather and rotted or about to rot.

Also I found an 83 Sea Ray Seville 18 foot cuddy with a 170 mercruiser. cockpit cover and fish finder. There asking 2500.

and then theres a 1988 Thompson 18 foot Cutlass Bow Rider 180hp mercruiser, cockpit and bow cover.

Any opinions on either of these boats? I kind of like the idea of a cuddy so that if i happen to get a lady on the boat we can have some "privacy".

I've read the cuddy vs open bow...i probably wont be fishing. maybe some tubing. and alot of sitting at the beach all day drinking....so the cuddy would be nice to drink all day and pass out in as well.

Also i'll be taking out a loan for whatever boat i end up choosing...whether it be one of these or a totally different one so I have to make sure its worth what there asking via NADA for my bank to approve me.

All opinions and comments are greatly appreciated.

I don't want to rant...BUT, - I f your purpose in finding a new boat is to "drink all day then pass out below" Then Sir,perhaps you need to stay on shore,Drunk Boaters are a menace to myself & my family not to mention all the other Safe,Responsible boaters out there. Do yourself a favor and confine the drinking to shore.

Normally I never render an opinion on financing issues as I have no right to talk and have done just about everything dumb you can do with money but.....these are not the types of boats you finance. If you can't afford a $2500 boat then you should be looking for freebie/low cost project boats that you can fix up yourself as finances allow.

Re: I want to buy a boat

i'm asking for info about these 2 boats not my lifestyle....

post 1. If i were drinking i just said i'd be "at the beach" hence i would be parked and not bothering anyone. I guess i mis phrased that a little its not the only purpose for me buying a boat.

post 2. Its easier to finance and it'd be paid off in a year...no biggy...why buy a pile and sink twice as much money and sweat into it...i'm not looking at junkers there both in very nice condition.

any useful information would be greatly appreciated...

Re: I want to buy a boat

Here we go again, people post this stuff out there, ask for opinions and then don't like what they hear. If this is all you can afford even with financing, find another hobby. And while I think you should be able to do whatever you want on your boat, including drinking, if your plan is to "pass out" after drinking all day, please make sure to let us know what kind of boat you buy and where you will be doing your boating so you can be avoided like the plague. You have made "your lifestyle" the business of the people on this board by call attention to the fact that you are a problem boater and that is a problem for EVERYONE!!!!

Re: I want to buy a boat

My point is that a $2500 boat is not far from a "junker". Sure there are lots of diamonds in the rough out there and I hope you find one. However, with boats this old chances are really good that it's going to end up needing some repair and if you extend yourself buying the boat, you're not going to be able to afford the repairs. Then what have you got? A monthly payment on a busted boat. If we were talking about a newer, $5-6000+ boat and you were financing it that'd be a different story. A lot of people on here would still condemn that but I recognize that not everyone has that kind of cash laying around. Personally, if I was you (and I was) I'd look around for a couple hundred dollar hull with no motor and then find a couple hundred dollar used outboard, get her running and go have fun.

Lighten up guys! Who here has never had a drink, or two?
I'm sure he knows better then to drink, & drive.

They all sound like good boats, but I'd stay away from OMC. The SeaRay sounds nice, but it is older, and an 18' Cuddy is kinda small, usually you need to get into a bigger boat like 22' or more for a decent cuddy, but if it suits your purpose it's fine. You can't go wrong with a SeaRay, unless it's been badly neglected.

Re: I want to buy a boat

I could take out a 5 or 6k loan...i'm not extending myself at all....I just can't find anything newer thati like so far....

i'm not here to argue about whether or not you should drink on a boat i'm here to get an opinion on 2 boats i posted...if there both "junk" then say there junk and be on your way...

its funny i've gotten alot of help on here and all a sudden you meantion the word drink and everyone turns on you...

If i wanted a pile of crap with an outboard i'd use my 14 foot aluminum fishing boat....

find me a good 4 or 5 thousand dollar boat in central ny and i'd more then be willing to check it out...i just can't find anything really

Then Don't Say You Are Going To Drink All Day And Pass Out! As Far As I Am Concerned, This Is What You Are Going To Do And I Feel Sorry For All Of The People Who Are Going To Be Boating Around You.
