Re: I want to move the the Keys!!!!

Ever been to Kwajalein, TD? Now there is great weather and not too many people. No Wal Mart, either.

Bikini is even better and Eniwetok the best. The whole atoll is its own nightlight. :)

Stopped by Kwajalein for a water tank refill many years ago (back in my sailing "fad" days) Not many people would be an understatement. Beautiful piece of coral though.

Re: I want to move the the Keys!!!!

I watched an episode of Spanish Fly yesterday. They were showing Merit Island. I wanna move there, looked very nice.
You might want to check out the crime rate on Merritt Island and the surrounding area.

My daughter grew up on Merritt Island, she still has many friends there and she is aways talking about how bad the crime is getting.

As for the Keys, I would move in a heartbeat if my wife would go too. My sister is on Key Largo and loves it.

Hurricanes vs Tornadoes...hmmmm

One shows up miles away on radar and takes days to make landfall. The other show up just minutes away from your home and takes away mobile home parks.

I think I'd rather deal with hurricanes.

Weren't the Marshall Island areas the site for U.S nuclear bomb testing? Might be no Wal-Mart and people for a reason.

Showing my age again, I guess. I thought everyone knew that.

Kwaj was a Navy Air Station that I visited many times. One of the worlds greatest lagoons for snorkeling.

Bikini had one or two fission bomb tests but is habitable, I think.

Eniwetok was the site of the first fusion (thermo-nuclear) bomb test and several subsequent. Eniwetok is not habitable because of Cesium 137 in all of the plant matter. No way to grow anything that isn't "hot".

Re: I want to move the the Keys!!!!

All this thread and we just cancelled our Bahia Honda visit!! We had plans to join another couple who had scored one of the cabins at the park, just did not work out on our part..:(...I have visited the keys since I started diving, back in the 60's. Didn't need a license or anything back then..I didn't get certified untill in the Navy in the early 70's and stationed in Hawaii. There is just something about seeing the color of that gin clear water and those emerald green seas that is mesmerizing. You can be offshore in 80-100' of water and see large amberjack just cruising the bottom. You can be in several hundred feet of water a very short distance from shore.
We will go down to Duval St. to take in the sunset and all the freaks at dusk, just don't hang around there too much. Once in a while is all it takes! Most all of our time is spent at the middle and upper keys. Pennecamp had always been a favorite, however lots of people there this time of year. We will probably make our way down in the spring...
