i recently dropped an 1987 3.0 mercruiser engine into my 2002 bayliner capri 175. the original motor was blown due to previous owner not winterizing. anyways, the older alternator is much bigger then the 2002 alternator. and i was told that this might be a problem to run 1987 alternator on a 2002 wire harness. note ( the 1987 had points ignition and i switched it over to electronic ignition with the 2002 haress, coil, distributer.) so what i want to know is. can i use the older alternator on my upgraded electrical system? thanks, and no i do not have the original 2002 alternator. it was junk. so if this dont work, ill need a new one.
