Re: I WON I WON I WON, now what do i do?

With my Odyssey I spent about 20 minutes on the phone with a Honda engineer before trusting the 3500 lbs tow rating. Here is what he said -- may apply to you too:

He said to keep it in D3 most of the time and only go to OD when its real flat. he said just get used to the running up around 3500 - 4000 rpm -- as the honda engine makes all its torque above 3000 so this is where the engine will be most comfortable, coolest, and most efficient towing. Thus, versus hitting 80 mph with the rpms barely over 2100, I tow my boat around 70-73 with the rpms around 4000, and still get 13-14 mph.

It took a tweak of my mind at first because you think the higher the rpms the harder the engine is working, but I just keep remembering what the engineer said about torque and the engine and tranny actually running cooler at the higher rpms. Diesel is the opposite -- more torque at lower rpms.

Now keep in mind, I am not an auto mechanic or engineer, so my understanding of torque is rudimentary.

However, consider doing a lot of your towing in D3. Also, read your Pilot's manual before going to pick up the boat.

Just food for thought.
