I went fishing in a chain of lakes on wednsday, and as i was heading back to the dock three lakes away a guy and has date in a pontoon boat waved me down and said his starter quit on his motor and could i tow him 2 lakes the other way,of course i said sure tossed him a line and started towing him through the first canall. After we get through the canal his GF says is this wire back here supposed to be connected to something as she is looking at the motor! So i stop pulling him with my boat 16ft 85hp force motor, and pull up to his boat to take a look, the guy says no thats just to tie the pontoon up to the dock with.So since were sitting there i ask him to try the motor again {just took his word that it wouldn't start}sure enough the starter spun but the pinion gear would not lift to turn the flywheel, after seeing this i thought i read in one of these forums about boat starters take a lot of juice to get them to engage,so i says it may be that your battery is not charged up to make the starter work?Guy says i have a newer battery on board,so i can give it a try, sure enough hooks up the new battery and zip starts right up,thanks iboats for these great forums and all the members for helping me help a stranded boater, have a better boating experince.

Cool!

I carry a spare battery...even though my boat is only designed for one. Never needed it...but I don't want to be 'that guy'! ;)

Much better to learn from shared mistakes of others,
rather than from sorrowful mistakes of your own.

I have learned much from the postings of the forums,
though I'm still far from knowing all I could and should know.
